I've been dabbling with various Linux distros over the past couple years (Mandrake, SuSe, Red Hat, Ubuntu) but still consider myself a newbie (mainly because computers are not the focus of my work). What would be a good resource(s) for someone very familiar with Wintel systems to understand Linux better? Not necessarily programming for the OS, more along the lines of installing packages, filesystem management, user/groups, WINE, etc. Thanks guys.

I love the show! Keep it up. Two things:
a) I downloaded the latest show (#12) in H.264 While the picture quality is superb, the sound is subpar, which lots of "static". What's up?
b) I support the use of ads to pay for the show. HOWEVER, you should encourage your advertisers to make intersting, offbeat, and fun ads and to show different ones frequently. If a good ad comes up, I'll watch it. But, if I've seen it 10 times, I'll just fast-forward. I imagine I am not alone in this.
Thanks!

I just got done watching this week's show and I think if Matt wants to leave because of 4 commercials, then I have to say, "Good-bye". I can't believe someone would whine about something they are getting for free.... actually, I guess I can believe that whiners like this exist.
I do agree with David above though. It would be nice if the advertisers could offer a bit more variety in their commercials.

yes XBMC is the best, the music and video database features in it are amazing, the most bang for the buck hands done once it's all setuped and configured! Though if you have the money and want a HTPC then go for MediaPortal which is the XBMC software ported to Windows, or get both as you can use MediaPortal as the back-end/server-side and XBMC as the front-end/client-side to get the best of both worlds! You can have once PC with MediaPortal and several Xboxes with XBMC connected to it, one for each room in the house ;)

Hey guys,
After watching your show on HDTV you have convinced me to finally take the step and upgrade my analog cable to digital so that I can get some good HD programming. I currently have Comcast and I am thinking about getting their HD PVR (I think it is a Motorola).
My question, is there a way to easily pull my data (i.e. tv shows) from the Comcast PVR to my computer? I travel a lot and want to take my shows with me. I am currently using a program called Beyond TV by snapstream as a PVR and it records to WMV/ MPEG that is obviously very easy to pull to or even stream to my laptop, I can even compress using any method I choose (divix, compressed wmv) for portability to a handheld or laptop. I like the ability to stream to the laptop from my snapstream box so that I can watch Battlestar Galatica while the wife watches stupid reality shows.
What format does the Comcast PVR (or tivo for that matter) record in, .wmv .mp4 .mp2 other proprietary? Is there a hack out there that will allow me to get the media off the PVR to my PC hdd for portability/ streaming? Should I just get a HD tuner for my HTPC and keep using snapstream?
Love the show keep up the great work. Glad to finally see paint on the walls rather than the old drywall tape!

What do you think of FFdshow, is it really the "swiss army knife of codec-suit"?
At first look FFdshow seems like the only audio/video-decoder most Windows-users will ever need to play all and any audio or video files of the internet. However at a seconds look FFdshow lacks full QuickTime and RealMedia playback in Windows Media Player, also a MP3-encoder is missing (which is why you may also need to install 'QuickTime Alternative', Real Alternative, and 'LAME ACM MP3-Codec'). A other option is to skip all the codecs and play all files with 'Media Center Classic' (also known as MPC).

Not really a question or a complaint, but a comment. Just downloaded one of the episodes for sh--- and giggles in the xvid format. tried it on my portable video player and viola!... it plays.
The player is the MPM-201 and it plays and records div-x, I'm just surprised it played this content. So now I can wath DLTV on the computer, the handheld, and now, the TV via the dock craddle.
Awesome... you guys rock!

Dear dl.tv,
For the most part, the show is good. Robert is great and the content (HDTV, gaming, cameras, etc.) is just what I'm looking for.
Suggestions:
1) I'm not sure if not being ready at the beginning of a segment is part of some sort of schtick or not, but it's either unprofessional or not funny. Take your pick.
2) I'm pretty sure (see above) I'm not the only one who's sick of Patrick's "but I digress".
3) What's with Patrick's cartoony voices? Not funny! Not informative! Not original! Please stop!
4) Specific commercials for the podcast version would be nice as they're often lost on the audio-only audience. The sponsors have got a captive audience in me (I'm too lazy to try to scan through them) so they might want to consider having more dialog in the commercials for the audio version.
In sum:
Heron & content - often great
Norton - often grating
Best wishes and Happy Holidays to all,
Ole Laporte

Ok, I know, I'm just another nattering naybob of negativism (to borrow an ancient phrase from another patrick) piling on the criticism stack, but here goes:
I wonder if the problem is that there's not enough contrast between Robert and Patrick? The two seem very similar on camera in temperament, and opinion.
Patrick made a really GREAT Co-host back in the TSS days, playing the "heavy" to Leo's more stary-eyed approach to tech, and fatherly demeanor on camera. Perhaps you guys need to mix it up more; get some differences of opinion going; spend less time on the happy-talk, and more on the "meat-n-potatoes"....
But then, I'm not in media, and never plan to be, so what do I know (seriously)... I'm just another schlubb with quicktime on my laptop, and a big mouth...
Keep up the good work guys,
Greg.

I watch your show on my iPaq 2200 series. I use the TCPMP viewer and the show looks great in XviD format. I know it is more time consuming to encode in XviD but it is the only format that plays back well from an SD card in my iPaq.
I am sure that you guys already know about the TCPMP media player but here is the link anyway. http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/about
Also, I encode my DVDs into XviD format using FairUse Wizard 2. The movies are compressed down to 250MB and look good. I am hoping to get a 512MB SD card for Christmas so that I can make the file sizes larger giving me more detail.
Would it be possible to do a show on tricks on how-to encode video for portable devices?
The show is the best. Keep up the excellent work!

I have heard you mention problems with xvid, encoding on G5. I encode tons of stuff in xvid, and for the G5, use ffmpegX, http://homepage.mac.com/major4/
Use the ffmpeg xvid profiles, not the mencoder ones. The mencoder xvid output can be jumpy.
For windows, the gordian knot has been the one the produces the best quality output, and no jumpiness, and you can just dedicate a DIY pc to do it.
I have spent hours experimenting with settings and tweaks, I can send what I have found to work best if you need. I test my output on mac/win, and my Avel Link Player that uses the sigma chip.

I Feel you Pat the PSP is in real need of some new games , give Kingdom of Paraside a try it a fun action rpg with a good story and some cool real time combat, or if you like shooters try Socom Fire Team Bravo it's the BEST shooter on the system and it also has the best online play seen so far on the PSP (16 player w/ voice support if you get the $20 headset).
My Comment on video encoding for the PSP...., just download the Ipod version and then reformat it for the PSP with PspVideo 9, also once it's in the crazy PSP format it can still be played with quicktime and shown a fullscreen size, or moved to the ipod video. I prefer the avc format over the sp in video 9.
Sorry I know this was long just wanted to share the info with you guys and Hey I love the show and would love to see news on the PSP, Ipod video, and other portable media players...... Great show keep it up :D

Hello guys; I'm a DL.TV fan from Mexico (not from Baja though)
So, last weekend I was about to purchase an HDTV at a major US electronics store (the one with the yellow tab); however the Sales Rep told me that I had to purchase something called a Power Center; he then gave me a demonstration how an unfiltered TV would have this horrible sound and all. Plus he told me that the only brand of cables he would recommend was the MONSTER brand.
My question is this; is a Power Center really indispensable? And also, do I really have to buy the Monster brand of HDTV cables? I've seen other brands which are much cheaper; are MONSTER cables so superior?

I really think this website needs work. The videos are great, however, this website just kills everything. On my 1024*768 browser, I have to scroll horizontally! That's just pretty stupid, the reason for this is that damn add on the right. Cant you move it somewhere else? Also, please make each segment of the video shorter and cover more things. Sometimes, a single segment goes so long it gets pretty boring, no discussion should be longer then 6-7 minutes.

CES Show #2 Celestron's SkyScout Personal Planetarium. Jim Louderback mentioned he would like the functionality of this device built in to a telescope.
Celestron and Mead both have had GPS and Star Databases included in their telescope products for number of years now. The GPS and Star Database can be used to align the scope and then the database can be used to point the scope to a selected object or use get information on an object you have found. The scopes can also be connected and controlled from a computer.

Hi, Guys! It's Wednesday night and things have changed since I wrote you the last question on Sunday (about the free DVD software). Since that time, I was able to find the application for making DVD movies on my computer. It turns out what I thought I found with my last note was some bit of CD-burning MS crap.
The actual app for making DVD movies is a servicable piece of software from InterVideo. I have tried archiving DL.TV to DVD with good results. It's not straight data burning, if it were I could fit the entire 28 episodes you have done so far on one disk in WMV format. As it is, I can render one to five episodes per single-density disk, depending on the compression. The mid-range compression appears to work best, with a 2-hour recording time, allowing for 2 to 3 episodes (depending on their length).
I'm writing now because the InterVideo app refuses to load certain episodes of DL.TV. It throws an error on episodes 16, 19, and the 2nd CES show, citing format problems. I am able to open and view those shows in Windows Media Player, and re-downloading did not clear the problem. Could there be an irregularity in the way those show were encoded, as opposed to the other shows on the site?
(Aside: The reason I want to burn the shows to DVD is my wife seriously dislikes watching shows on the computer, but has been a fan of Patrick's since The Screen Savers days. GO DROPKICK MURPHYS!)

Glad to see you all again. I was an avid viewer of ZDTV and Tech TV. Missed Screen Savers & Call for Help.
I tried to send Ep #17 to my HP IPAQ (Windows 2003) through Windows Media Player and it would not let me. It says "Window Media player Error. Cannot sycronize." I have Windows media player 9 on my Pocket PC & player 10 on my computer. I have version 3.7.1 Active Sync. What am I doing wrong?
P.S. On TWIT you "guys" said only 3% of your audience are women. Don't count on it!! I'm a 55 yr old Grandmother with a PS2, Game Cube (yes, I played Resident Evil 4!), an MP3 player and a pocket PC. My husband doesn't like tech! Who bought you guys your first Nintendos? Your Mothers!!

Closeups of the DLTV on-set television:
Can't you guys switch to a live feed from the PC instead of having the camerman film the TV screen? The shot often has info out of frame, and the content on-screen is rarely discerible. Just got a guy with a video switchbox to channge the recording input from the camera feed to your PC output. It would make the show much more watchable.
Ads: I can't believe that there's anyone that does not immediately fast-forward through ads on the pocast or videocast. It's a waste of all of our time. I'd gladly pay $20 bucks a year to subscribe to the show or get some sort of made-up "DLTV Member's Only" features, in lieu of the hassle of skipping the ads. How 'bout it?

I was surprised by the lack of enthusiasm towards virtualization software expressed on the show. I don't think you see some of the great things it can do. If you had a copy of VMWare Workstation from EMC you could easily be testing different operating systems such as Vista and Linux flavors on one computer, plus keeping the base Windows XP there as well.
Once you have the virtual machines setup, you can move them from system to system without worrying about hardware incompatibilities as the virtual machine doesn't change. For general users they are also great. Robert is always saying how machines should be reformatted when they get messed up. It is trivial to make backups of virtual machines, do all of the work in them, and if they get infected or something else goes wrong with them, just copy over a backup.
I would recommend doing most general purpose computing work in a virtual computer where CPU power is less of an issue. Also, now VMWare has a free client that can run on Windows and Linux.
Also I don't work for EMC, and am nothing more than a happy customer.

I was asking around about podcasting, and how I could do it myself.
I finally reinstalled Flash MX 6, found some code and made this all by my little lonesome:
http://ccl.flsh.usherb.ca/eslcafe/myplayer.htm - Not bad for a «newbie». If you try it, send me a URL. I'd like to see what folks do with it. Has a XML file that you can use to translate it too.
I'm now encoding mp3s and podcasting educational content to my students.
GPL! Code is "free" - "as in beer" too. I just don't believe in making people pay, after all the help I've received in the many newsgroups over the years. It's nice to give back!

Hey guys, love the show, glad I found you again after that channel screwed us over. Just wondering if there was a limit to the length of the show. I know TWiT has a limit of about 80 minutes or so. Does the same apply for DL.TV?
Thanx for keeping me informed. You're doing a great job!

Don't know if it has anything to do with your server problems, but I keep receiving all the RSS feed posts from 1/6/2006 (Friday CES Special!) to 2/14/2006 (DL.TV Episode 35!). About 13 posts, and I receive them every day, the same ones. I have 2 other RSS feeds that are not acting up, so I'm fairly certain the problem isn't me.
I use Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5.

Robert- You mentioned on one show that the only true HD plasmas are 50" and up. I have seen a Hitachi 42" plasma that is 1024 x 1024 resolution. Two questions, is this true HD? and how do they manage the "square" resolution?

I miss TechTV so much. Will never forgive G4Media for what they did. Any chance that there will ever be a reunion of Leo & Patrick, and even Kevin Rose? I like the web-based ideas for distribution but would love to see DirecTV pick up a new channel like the old ZDTV/TechTV. Any chance that Ziff Davis will start TechTV anew (maybe with Vulcan's help)?

This is the question I just e-mailed to P&R:
Hey Patrick & Robert,
I want to put 480p video on my website for people to watch much like
Apple movie trailers does (with my own personal content of course :)
I have the script to put the mov video into a nice neat player for a
user interface but I don't know how to compress the video from 1080i to
the more manageable 848x(352~480). How do the movie studios compress to
get such clean sharp video?
It's inevitable that all online video will evolve to 480p and higher.
Any help you could give us early adopters would be a great help!
Thanks,

I use Juice to manage my podcast downloads. After listening to #66, I subscribed to the WMV video feed. Oddly, Juice points the video entry to the MP3 list I'm already subscribed to. Tried a work around recommended on the Juice forum, but it doesn't work. Any idea why Juice would insist on pointing to the first DL.TV entry?
Jim
FYI, I had the same problem when I subscribed to the video feed, then elected to change to the audio feed. The new audio subscription pointed to the video directory. Go figure.

Windows Vista Beta 2 is available on www.bittorrent.com
You still have to register with Microsoft to get the key.
Additionally it can work in the free vmware server. You don't even have to burn to DVD. The vmware client allows the CD drive to point to a ISO file.
The install was painless and the vmware tools installed on Vista without any issues.

I have finally decided that I can't stand the slowness of my 5400rpm notebook hdd so I am up for an upgrade to a shiny new 100gb 7200rpm drive. However, I don't want to have to reinstall every application that is on the current 80gb drive. Could you suggest anything about copying the contents of old drive onto the new one? Perhaps some ide adapters and good cloning software? The software doesn't need to be free. Also taking out the optical drive and plugging in the new hdd really wouldn't work as the notebook does not have universal bays.
Thanks.

The reported feature complete version of Vista Beta 2 is somewhat incorrect.
I purchased a 360 last night pluged it in, connected it 2 my network and much 2 my frustration the setup wizard for Media Center Extender ends with an error.
Obviously this will be fixed in later released of Vista, but my point is it should not be called feature complete until all features work.

Me, and a friend got into a discussion about the ever increasing wattage of PSU's. Now we understand that computers require a lot of power, but I'm having a bad feeling thinking about a 1000w PSU, and 200w GPU in my room consuming that much power.
Are they working on anything, or anyways to lessen the amount of power a Computer must consume? Because at the rate we are going, in another 3 to 4 years we will be using 2000w PSU's....

Could you address the issue of how we begin to build a full HDCP chain Ie. A Blu ray/HD DVD player/recorder through a HDCP compliant graphics card(like MSI NX7900GT through Dual link DVI-I(analog and digital) or through HDMI 1.3 using the new SI-sil9134 transmitter to sil 9134 receiver(1.3 increasing bandwidth to include better audio and lipsync). It appears all this will be necessary for HD media to work in Vista. 1920x1080p LCD screens are begining to look very good but few actually have HDCP compliance through HDMI and/or dual link DVI. It can be argued HDCP is BS but it (is) and if we want to play protected content we have to figure a way to deal with it. It appears that we can't expect ATI and Nvidia to be a solution to HDCP since they pass that along to GPU card makers that use their chips.
I think this partly explains why it is difficult for HD DVD and Blu Ray to move ahead quickly. The 1.3 standard was agreed to... the transievers comming next month and no/few monitors/HDTVs able to handle the data. Help us make some sense of this mess...Tom

Why does Patrick keep saying that HD-DVD puts out a 1080p signal? He said it again on TWIT this weekend. I looked at the specs and it clearly stats that it is 720p/1080i. The only true 1080p HD device is the Blu-ray. Why does he keep trying to make this more confusing than is has to be. Robert has done similar things on TWIT. I don't have an exact quote, but once on TWIT he made a comment that resolution that the differnce between 1080p HDTV and 720p HDTV was minimal, this makes me crazy. I really don't think anyone who doesn't own an HDTV should even be reviewing them and calling themselves an expert. Those couple HDTV calibration classes don't make you an expert. 20 years of monitor callibration might be closer to an expert.
Am I wrong? Please correct me if so.

@DL.TV crew, I normaly like your show so I'm sorry to report this but I'm highly disapointed by Roger Changs presentation (or should I say miss-reprensentation) of a modded Xbox in this Episode 106. He showed it in very poor light so to speak.
First of all; why did he not set it up to boot directly to XBMC (XboxMediaCenter), why did he play the medi-files from the file-manager and not from the "My Videos" interface (and why didn't he show of the "My Music" and "My Pictures" views as well), that just gives the wrong impression, the real interface is so smooth and great to use, and why the heck did he use an old third-party skin (a clone of Wndows XP MCE 2005) when the original Project Mayhem 3 skin is much nicer.
http://www.chokemaniac.net/download.php?cat=pm3
Secondly; if possible choose a hardware modchip before a software mod (softmod), only use a softmod if you for some reason don't want to spend the $20 to £60 bucks on a modchip. Once you tested XBMC you probebebly won't mind spending some money for a modchip and DVD-remote control for your old Xbox.
Finally; the orignal Xbox and XBMC does too output HD (720p and 1080i), you just need to buy a other video-cable, a component cable-adapter, either from Microsoft or a third-party one. True the Xbox processor is not fast enough to decode native 720p or 1080i/1080p video but it can upconvert all video that has a lower resolution than 960x540 (a.k.a. HRHD or Half Resolution High Definition) to 720p and 1080i. So a normal NTSC or PAL DVD-Video movie can be upconverted to 720p and 1080i without problems on the Xbox in XBMC.
I like to request a new review and new reevaluation of a modded Xbox with it booting directly to XBMC with it's original skin and the latest version, XBMC 2.0.0
PS! www.xbox-scene.com is much better than www.xbox-hq.com

Response to Why did I install IE7 in episode 107?
Quick fix to space issue. Press F11 and the nav bar turns into a hidden tool bar so you have 100% screen browser in on your monitor. Both tool bars are hidden. Need the tool bar back? Put mouse on top of page and like magic, the tool bars back.
Rock On!!

Is it too tuff to update your website to indicate when the new show will be ? I know it is new website but can't be that tuff to do. I think it is RUDE to not indicate when show is especialy when the show does not always start on time. If it is TOO tuff maybe you should only offer the show via a download.

Still up to your same stupid comment and games. If you have evidence of an illegal act that you did not suffer damages and demand payment than that is extortion. If you suffer damages from that act, obtain evidence and demand payment than that is not extortion. Who cares how many lawyer friends you have (Wow), nobody would waste a second suing your pitiful show. Why don't focus on improving your show.

As an ardent fan of DL.TV I feel that the show is successful not least as a result of the interaction between Robert and Patrick who compliment each other wonderfully.
When Jim has stood in for Patrick in recent shows he is undeniably energetic but is it just me who finds him a little overpowering? Jim is a great front man on his own but he simply doesn't work with a partner.
Poor Robert's face seemed to range from disbelief through surprise and back to resignation!

Now that HD-DVD is 'hacked', do you feel, as I do, that they will 'win the war'? To me it is obvious. If the format is made user-friendly, it wins. You would think the companies involved would learn and provide end-users something less restrictive. What are your opinions on this?...

This seems to be a huge problem with IPOD. I am running a Windows computer. Now my IPOD is just a useless paper weight

Hello One and all .
Am I the only one who has a clue as to why MS took so long in coming out with Vista. It didnt take me long to figure it out. Does anyone remember when back in 2002 or 2003 Ms said that it was ready to come out with the next MS OS. The all of a sudden , Nothing. Then 5 yrs later, VISTA finally shows up. Well my educated guess is that when MS did have vista finally done, MS had to show the Hollywood exexutive of all the major movie and recording label's Look we have the new VISTA. Guess what? Hollywood said to MS, It aint going to fly. Meaning that MS had a OS that was so very user friendly to US folks , that Hollywood said no way , no chance JOSE. They , HW, said that you are going to have to go back to the drawing board and make it Hollywood friendly. Well guess what MS had to do it in order to comply with HOLLYWEIRD buisness model. And that is why MS took so long to come out with this version of VISTA. Think about it. It makes Perfect sense to me and it should to everyone else, Well everyone except Hollywierd.

Just a couple of quick technical corrections from the Boston mooninite/bombing comments. C4 does ignite unlike concrete and it burns readily although it doesn't detonate from being simply lit. The shoe bomber had TATP, not C4, which is made from hydrogen peroxide and acetone and is the same stuff the London bombs were made from and it's also the reason you can't carry liquids in volumes over 3 oz. on planes now. Unlike C4 it does detonate when ignited and the shoe bomber's plane could have very well been destroyed like the London buses were had the passengers not prevented it. Your chemistry is a little off but I watch the show for the electrical engineering.
I enjoy the show a lot and it's great that it's available for downloading as well as streaming. If only the networks had your insight. Keep up the good work.

I have been watching the show off and on since last year. I found the show on my dvd player with its online capabilities. I didn't know what it was at first, but then I read the topics and hosts and saw Patrick and Robert from TSS. Watching the show on my tv is good, but I wish the quality was a bit better. Is there any way to bring ZDTV back so we can all watch cool tech shows again? TechTV was my favorite channel. Keep up the good work. Would be also nice if you could have LEO on as a guest host. Patrick and Leo back together would bring back memories. I know that he has been on the show before, but I haven't seen him guest host a full show.

Hey guys great job I love your show, I wanted to say I just read an article concerning new laws on basically hacking into to networks and etc. by making it a felony with 5 years of prison time. This law states that any attempt to get information, harm the computer or utilize its network in any capacity is a crime ,so I guess using the apartment next door's broadband connection is now a felony sweeet! hell you could even say someone drving with a laptop is looking for open connections ,pre-meditated felony ,these laws are a joke and the people writing them Im not sure if they have ever even used a computer, Lastly does this mean I can press charges on Safenet and other companies that constantly try to hack into my computer and see what files im sharing that would be great ! lol awesome job guys maybe you can talk about this on the next show ,Thanks Jeremy

They Guys were talking about slo blo[w] fuzes. The reel purpose of a slow blow fuze is for equipment that may draw high current at startup. The fuze will not blow when the unit powers on while charging the filter capacitors, or maybe if it has a motor that draw high current when it starts up. You can ID a slow blow fuze that has a clear glass tube, it has what looks like a little spring inside, standard blow fuzes have an element that is the same shape from end to end.

This is to Sean T. He wants to try Linux. Here's a gotcha to watch out for. If you INSTALL linux it will mess up your computer's Master Boot Record, a.k.a. MBR. So if you decide to go back to your old OS you may find that it won't load because the mbr got changed. In that past what I have used is a program that comes with all versoins of Dos called fdisk. You may recognize it is the program that is used to work with partitions. But it has a mode that will fix the master boot record, it is: fdisk /mbr.
An ordinary bootable floppy disk [created by Windows] may not have this program. You may need a full Dos disk.

Great show guys. I am a dedicated fan.
Just one comment for Roger: I know that OLPC is controversial i.e. don't these people need water and sanitation? I know what you are getting at, but I think your concerns are are misdirected. Just look at the cell phone adoption rate in developing nations for a clue. These children are going to grow up and have to compete with the best in the world. By exposing them to this sort of technology such as OLPC will give them that chance. It will also enable them to sort out basic amenity issues in the future.
This is not the same as exposing them to Prada or Gucci - I would agree with you in that case. I grew up in Africa. These people need the chance to leapfrog to current worldwide standards - and they can only do this through technology.

MISTAKE IN ADVERT -
This is more of an issue for Symantec corp. but in one of the DL.TV adverts for "Norton 360", the narrator says that this man (Eric) on the sofa/couch is defending his computer and is backing up files as he naps, then we cut to the computer and if you look closer you might be able to tell that both "PC Security" and "Backup" statuses are not green (secure) "PC Security" seems red (Not Secure) and "Backup" seems orange (Warning) and the norton status seems to be "At Risk". All in all "Eric" is more of a "lazy mutt" rather than a "vigilant watchdog of PC security", to top it off the narrator says "we are proud of you Eric" at the end.
Watch the advert yourself (usually at start of show), and compare to this Norton 360 status screenshot, I only figured this out as I find this advert a bit annoying and have Norton 360 on one of my computers.

Question. I have seen a copy of XP Pro SP3 Black Edition. I would like to know how to make my own copy, from my legal copy of XP, and also to ensure there is no virus or hidden Trojans in there. The number of times I reinstall XP per year for my family, this would be worth it. I wonder if a vista version is available?
P.S. I removed vista and downgraded back to XP on all my laptops. Vista was just way too slow on a fast CPU with 4GB of ram!
