DL.TV Episode 23 aired live this Tuesday at 6pm PST (2am Wednesday, UTC).
Here's the deets:
- Hybrids: they're not just cars, but the future of hard disk drives.
We explain why magnetic disks and flash memory chips are a winning
combination, and what technologies are most likely to make it to your
local Fry's or CompUSA.
- Addictive games: these free time-wasters are so hard to quit they should be illegal.
- December is wrapping up, and the 2005 Google Zeitgeist is
finally here. The top gainers of 2005 inlcude (not suprisingly) Myspace
and Wikipedia, with 'Janet Jackson' as the top Google News search--clearly the public is focused on the hard news.
- No free antivirus program is perfect, but we like AVG, Avast 4 , and AntiVir better than some more expensive programs. We recommend you only install one antivirus program, so choose wisely.
- Do you really need Hi-Def DVDs for Hi-Def playback? Robert checks out the NeuNeo HVD2085 DVD player, to see if the upconverting player lives up to the hype.
- Plus, everything on Hi-Def DVD players: upsampling vs. upscaling vs. upconverting, 3:2 pulldown, resolutions, low cost solutions, and more from our expert/co-host Robert Heron.
- Viewer Question: Travis asks What's your take on the 'HDTV'
torrent downloads of TV shows? Not the legality issue, of
course, but the quality issue.
- Answer: HD is always compressed to get the file size down, and
resolution reduction is usually part of that process--but they can
still look pretty good. As far as the legality issue...
- We analyze the latest technology news, from our tech-centric San Francisco studio.
- And, as always, we take a swing at more of your viewer questions.

I can't wait until we can get IPSmell ;)
I appreciate the eppisode with brasso for polishing out scratches in the nano. Whilst I don't have a nano, I do have lots of plastic things I need to polish the scratches out of. I had forgot about brasso (the last jar I had was handed down to me from my dad - lasted about 25 years LOL).
Keep up the great job. How about a Brasso polishing contest where the best before and after photo wins?

I think they should shoot against a blue screen and run a background clip of them standing on a freeway.

I usually rebuffer several times on my 768k DSL line - not this show. Only one and I think it was related to some browsing I was doing.
It seems that either the stream was better or I have the settings correct finally.
Hope they all go this smoothly!

Deets is short for 'details'. But, as eflightcentral pointed out, it is also a highly effective mosquito repellant!

Seagate just announced that they will buy Maxtor, and they will soon amass close to half the market, i think the hybrid hard drive idea's pathway may very well be determined by this merger

Just a quick note stemming from a comment Patrick made about the Mac and viruses, he said that," Mac users don't think they get hit with viruses." I do realize that the show is PC oriented, and nothing is 100% secure, but as of today, Mac OS X is and has been 100% virus and spyware FREE!!! Mac users don't think they don't get hit with viruses THEY KNOW THEY DON"T GET HIT WITH VIRUSES.
Windows Swiss Cheese OS = 100,000 plus viruses plus Spyware and clunky U.I.
Mac OS X = 0 viruses, 0 spyware, intuitive clean fun to use U.I. built from ground up to be secure.
DL.TV really needs someone on the show that knows Macs and OS X.
