DL.TV Episode 31 streamed live on Tuesday, January 31st.
Here's the deets:
ATI beats Nvidia on Video accelleration, tho you might never notice. Fire up the rumor mill: Google in talks to buy Napster?
Been sharing software? UK ISPs ordered to turn over user info. We asked if you want video game coverage... and boy, did you answer. Microsoft releases IE 7.0 Beta 2: read PCMag's review. The short version? Lots of interface mods, some new security features, and it brings IE up to par with Firefox. It's really for developers and folks that love testing beta software, but you can download the beta.. Thanks to everyone that emailed us with information on the Maxthon browser. (Underneat, it's IE 6!) What is 'Fair Use' anyway? Danny O'Brien, Activism Co-ordinator, drops by from the EFF to discuss. Want some help influencing your local representative on tech policy? Go to the EFF Action Center. What were those camcorders we talked about?
Looking to spend under $500? Hitachi's DZMV780A records to a DVD-R or DVD-RAM
Just about any Sony or Canon is workable in that price range.
Thinking sub $1000? We showed off Canon's Elura 90 and Panasonic's PV-GS250
We also mentioned Canon's Optura 400. (It picked up PCMag's Editor's Choice award.)
Sony's changing over their camcorder models. You might score a deal on a, Sony DCR-HC90. Heads up: chances are that company offering a video camera camera for hundreds less than everybody else.... ...wants you to pay top dollar for an 'accessories package' or isn't going to ship you the camera at that price.. Ask us how we know. StarForce Technologies threatens BoingBoing's Cory Doctorow.
The company seems rather upset that he called it "anti-copying malware." We had time for a few viewer questions, too. Keep 'em coming!

Is anyone having success with the flip4mac 2.01 plugin for quicktime?
It's the first time I try to watch a live steam.

Flip4mac has problems with streaming windows media videos. I find that it usually can only play fully downloaded WMV files.

It's the plugin.
If you want to continue using the Microsoft-supplied Web browser plug-in:
1. Run the Flip4Mac WMV installer and proceed to the Installation Type phase.
2. Click Customize and un-check the Web Browser Support option.

I'm having problems with the stream. This is the first time I've had any problems. I've got a 3mb/3mb cable connection and just ran a couple of speedtests and am getting at least 1.5mb down and the video keeps having to buffer.

Is it just me or the stream seems to be buffering often.

I'm on a 4mb cable connection and the video has stopped about 15 times now. Am I the only one with this problem???

I'm on a T1 connection at school, and i'm seeing the same buffering problems. Perhaps they got too popular for their connection to handle.

I give up. It buffers every 30-60 seconds. I'll just have to wait for the dl.

It kept lagging in particularly interesting spots. I watched what I could all the way through, but I'll probably watch the non-live stream again incase I missed something.

This is the first one I've tried to view live. I think I'll just download the wmv file when it's available, so I can watch it full screen. Liked what I saw though! Thank you DL.TV.

Yeah, I think the delayed download link is a plot to get more people to fill out the survey while they're waiting. {:^)
All good, I was happy to fill out the survey and help out dl.tv however I can.

Ummmm this dosen't look like it's comming from DL.TV. Who the heck is llnwd.net? Why is this person constantly repeating this over and over?
This IS a WMV file that could contain bad code, launch you to a website that could compromise your PC. I don't think I'll download this.
DO NOT CLICK THOSE LINKS above! Wait for a REAL link from the people at DL.TV that you can TRUST!

Though I have no idea why that guy keeps spamming the link everywhere the shownotes match with the video so I'm assuming that's the link for todays episode. No clue why the page hasn't been updated yet, but I got my fix one way or another.

I'm a new viewer and have been downloading old episodes to catch up. When I tried to get #23 it started at 40kbps and dropped to 30 so I cancelled. Something must be wrong, Patrick will fix it! Be back later today. I refuse to download from a strange link! ¶=0\

due to the win mediaplayer and network-settings it might happen that the aspx-streaming stutters and stops in the middle of the stream, so you are forced to start all over again. happens with win98-OS and ie6. - Solution: dl the video instead watching online. Cheers.

I don't know why people bother with any other formats. the WMV is smaller in size, and plays just fine. I guess if you're not using windholes you can't play it. Gee I figured someone by now would have "haxord" the WMV codec so they can play on other OSes. Especially from all you l337 linux users.
Hey every time I click the "Remember Me?" check box, it DOSEN'T REMEMBER ME!

You can play WMV just fine on other OSs like Linux. No one in thier right mind would ever do so though given choice as there are better quality formats to use. For free formats people prefer things like Xvid, for non-free h264 seriously blows WMV away.
