I watched the Screensavers faithfully for years which is why I now listen to ALL of their podcasts. If you found Patrick Norton annoying then, you'll find him 3x as annoying now. He will say "that's a scary thought", talk about his latest baja trip, or how all his music is uncompressed & you need $200 headphones & other terrible phrases so much that if you played the dl.tv drinking game you'd be drunk before the cast is over.
The problem with the podcast lies in the fact that they recently posted a questionairre on dl.tv due to them sucking. A few casts ago they responded to an email asking why they covered video games. Patrick said "we LIKE video games, so we're going to continue reviewing them." If we wanted video games we'd watch X-Play or use the net to research a game review, not wait for dl.tv to cover it! If you want to hear about camcorders for 20 minutes, fine. Then another show hear about digicams, fine, another about cell phones, but it is mighty boring for those of us NOT in the market for such things.
The reason casts succeed is they specialize in SOMETHING...music...tv...humor...etc. Screensavers was great because it was about COMPUTERS. Something you definitely need in order to receive a podcast & things you could do with it & the internet to make it worthwhile, cool, save you money, etc. DL.tv doesn't specialize in ANYTHING! They jump around & the interviews are long drawn-out mind-numbing listenfests. Plus, they do virtually NO EDITING & Patrick will repeat himself 50 times. Episode 42 is a great example of that.
P.S. Robert knows his stuff & isn't a paranoid freak like Pat. He knows TV specs & he's the only reason I watch. Pat needs a mute button.

Brett, when you cut and paste your complaints from the previous show's comments, it only proves that you are a spammer with a worthless opinion.
I am constantly spouting constructive criticism for DL.TV. I can appreciate worthwhile citique. You, though, are a one note hack who is simply regurgitating the one thing that got him any attention last week.
You're a troll. Worse yet, you're a troll with absolutely no originality or creativity.
You're free to dislike the show. But being a spamming troll makes you less than human.

I like the idea of the show, but it is so poorly done. To much of the show is talking about dumb stuff and joking around. Wow! Since are we not allowed to post what we feel about a show on, of all things, the last fading free frontier, the internet? Brett has some good points. I like watching DL.TV. I love what they do and their contribution to IPTV. I hope they succeed and keep on forever. I try not to miss an episode, but frankly, if I do, I don't cry. The reason for that is that they do seem to have long, drawn out segments from time to time. Far too often, I think.
Robert is great and funny.
I liked Pat on the Screen Savers, like him now but he does get annoying with his undying commitment to cynicism and sarcasm about anything that has ANY kind of flaw (not just the Microsofts). He gives me the impression that if Patrick Norton had invented, coded, written, done anything, it would be flawless. It's as if he's playing some kind of contrived role. Like he has to live up to an image now.
Having said that, keep up the great work, guys!

I've seen a few episodes of the show and I really like it. I've started watching every Tuesday and Thursday. They still didn't answer my question about when direct x 10 is coming out.
I like how they jump around the technology spectrum and not just on computers. When something does not interest me I just do something else and listen. With so many segments in each show there is always something I am interested in. I just wish it was longer.
Also I wish they would do more hardware. Like rip open a computer and test whatever they are taking about instead of just holding it up. For example, don't tell me how cool the raptor x hard drive is. Plug it in and let me see how cool it is.
AWSOME SHOW!

Neuro, I got your point and I wasn't really referring to you. If you have proof about Brett, that's fine. I am talking about the other people, who say it's "whining" and other name-calling retorts. Nothing and nobody is ever made better by having a million "yes men" kissing their asses. Once again, I think DL.TV is great, are there problems? Yes. I love that the old screen savers crew has gone out and done such diverse projects. I will watch all of them. They are all contributing to the free consumer owned IPTV and new internet-entertainment frontier (which, by the way is on it's way to extinction if the big entertainment companies and phone companies have their way)Do I have my preferences? Yes, of course. Ultimately, we need to all write and/or call our congress representatives and speak out to keep this forum free. Thank God that they would not just say that we are all just whining.

Frizit I know exactly what you mean. Sure DLTV isn't perfect but it's the closest thing we have to the Screen Savers now, I feel lucky that we have this. Better then not having any tech programming at all, IPTV or regular TV. It isn't perfect but I'll take it!

I have an idea, why not all the people who have a problem with the show email DL.TV. Then, maybe, Patrick , Robert and the rest of the crew will have a chance to truly retort and let you know (if they choose) why the show is done in the format that it is now. Look, if you really didn't like the show, you wouldn't be here. If you DO have something contructive, by all means say it. If it is just a matter of wanting DL.TV to fail or to be upset because your favorite format is not being encoded just for you, (really, I can just speak for myself, however...)I think most people don't want to hear from you. Be helpful, not hurtful.
Now can we talk about this Episode? Please? Or maybe past episodes? Or hey, I got an idea, maybe let the DL.TV crew know what you would like reviewed?
Ok. Sorry. Getting a bit snippy. I apologize.

No matter what on the internet there will always be moaning gits who will complain no matter what you do. DL TV is a great show guys, don't change it, I know a lot of people who watch and really enjoy it in my local area alone. People are complaining about Patrick's sarcasm? Yes I would love to watch a show with absolutely no comedy, it would be so full of life (that was sarcasm!).
Seriously guys, don't listen to these moaners. Keep DL TV the way it is :) Looking forward to today's download. Unlike other people, my life doesn't involve sitting on the site clicking refresh every 2 seconds waiting for the download page to appear (seriously, people who are complaining about the show not being up for download within a few hours? There's nothing worse than complainers who are always threatening to leave, but never actually leave. The more they complain, the more closely they watch each episode. Ridiculous.

First, Fred: The comments section exists to leave comments to the show's crew, not just to other viewers. So I don't see the point in only voicing critiques in emails. In fact, it has been fairly obvious that the crew does read these comments. They've mentioned items from the comments during the show, and have even implemented changes based on comments made here. What other use does a Comments section have except to voice your, um, comments?
BTW -- you can put a personal URL or even an email address in the "Your URL" box if you want to give the DLTV crew an opportunity to contact you in response.
TDR: "To the critics: Let's see you do better. If you can do equal or better I'd be happy to read your criticisms." This is a HUGE fallacy that is usually perpetrated by starry-eyed kids who think their favorite TV shows are made by magic and are therefore untouchable by critique.
Anyone's constructive opinion is valid. Even some of the lesser constructive opinions can contain some useful advice. An ad-supported program needs viewers to survive and is not above those viewers. The layman has every right to his opinion. And you know what? I *have* produced video content for television and the internet. And I do think some of it is the equal of anything else out there. But that doesn't make my opinion any more valid than anyone else's. Nor should it.

people like Brett and Karate, posting the same old childish complaints every single episode are proof why the comments here need to be shut down. They're not offering any real criticism, and rebuff anyone else's critiques of their complaints by trying to take the high ground and lie that they're being constructive. Please.
Why don't you take your whining inside, do your own show, start your own blog and review the show yourself, or do it better. It doesn't have to be magic that makes a show happen, but if you're so full of ideas about what makes a show great, then make your own and stop complaining about others. If you don't like it, fine, but you don't have to pollute the feedback of someone else's with your repetitive childish tripe. Take it offline.
Man, these comments are getting useless. To the DL.TV crew and anyone else who might be reading; you do a great thing here, you do it for free, and you cover a load of VARIED and INTERESTING topics, and you do it with a casual class that makes the show easy to watch and listen to. Keep up the excellent work, all around, mistakes or no mistakes.

I guess I was a bit too glib in my earlier posting. At times the posting get frustrating, because I am hoping for some insight to product information that Patrick and Robert have asked for or other information and most of what I read is ranting about this, that and the other thing that has nothing to do with what was on the latest episode.
I have also been in production of one type of media or another for around 20 years. I fully understand the production process. I just find a lot of the comments not even remotely helpful. If I was part of the production team, I would not be all that happy.
And to your credit, a good portion of your postings have not been a bitchfest. My point, as well as many others, can it stop for a while at least?

Fed Up: OK, obviously I shouldn't be arguing with you. I didn't realize before that you were only 12. My mistake. Run along.
Fred: Thanks. The only complaint I can even recall making was that the start times were inconsistent. Beyond that, I trust that the paid professionals behind DLTV know what they're doing and are doing the best they can.
The only other recommendation I ever made was to post the show deets the morning of the show (rather than just an hour or two before). And guess what -- the next episode they actually did that. Was it because of my suggestion, or was it synchronicity? I don't know. They didn't do it for the next show, so maybe they tried out a viewer's idea and didn't like it. But I have noticed that the DLTV crew does pay attention to the comments, and has seemingly made other changes based on those comments, as well.
You know, I actually read comments like these all the time in my network day job (the videos on my site are my freelance work, not my day job, BTW). Lists and lists of complaints that come in via phone and email. Nobody takes it very hard, and we can easily separate the intelligent comments from the nonsense. And the nonsense ones typically makes us laugh, so they're good for something. So I would guess that the DLTV crew knows how to handle the comments here. They all get paid to do what they do, and getting feedback is just part of the job. At least it shows that people are watching, which means they're also watching the ads, which means (hopefully) the crew'll get to keep doing the show.
I do still think that criticism can be extemely valid. Someone like Brett who repeatedly posts the exact same complaint is a borderline troll, yes. But a sea of yes-men does nothing to help the show either. That's why when I work on a project, the last person I want to hear from is my wife -- she's going to say it's great regardless. In all of my work, and especially my video work, I always strive to be better, and have always welcomed criticism. I can tell which ones are simply too, ahem, Fed Up, to pay attention to, and which ones have legitimate critiques.
I think the folks at DLTV know what needs to be fixed, strive to fix it, and ultimately sleep well at night, regardless of what we post here. Besides, isn't insane arguing what you're supposed to do on the internet? :)

Umm,
seems someone left the cameras on, focused on something and burnt the lenses...SUGEST you reburn then with WHITE.
This from the WMV version, see burn in on the cam lenses.

Guys, you mentioned that there are no good online calendar options other than Yahoo!, even Kevin and Alex don't remember that Hotmail has a calendar option. The new Windows Mail beta has a easy to use calendar online. So if you're used to Outlook, check it out.

I have a feeling, or rather a prediction that DL.TV will never have forums...

This show was bound to be a bit of a letdown after watching that Hemos episode twice with friends as well as a LUG install fest this weekend, nothing short of Dvorak arriving with an accordeon would have topped it.
Well, it was still entertaining and sometimes good.
Lots of no-BS insight into the HD-DVD debate.
Narf's Mac hack was real cool. (Why Robert? Geeks want to dual boot Win/OSX, cmon, you can see that) Mac users everywhere felt violated when those pictures appeared (and now the video is on YouTube). Seeing that XP logo on their beloved Mac screen was something akin to group of brainwashed people who would kill another human because of a cartoon.
Until that Sirius portable is truly portable, its not even worth it.
You sounded unprepared for that Maxell media. You should do a follow up to correct that.
Cool scotchbrite mod.
Good bar etiquette tips. Alcohol makes people violent.
The Live screwup should teach the guys to leave that sh*t alone. I like when they use the browser but Norton is to those Microsoft sites like garlic is to a vampire. Quit going there !!
One of of my friends Garry who saw DL.tv once before with me (and believes that Heron gives out an uh... SanFran vibe, let's say) said to me at the end of the Hemos episode "That fellow with the glasses should really not hold back and just let it rip. Im curious."
Whew!
Daaaamn, that Home Theater PC review was brutally funny. I can picture their marketing department
will already be drinking to forget all night.
That WAS the funniest bit I've seen in a long time.
Im thinking of taking that 2min rant and sending it to my friends and see how far itll go...
So Robert,... what do you think of the VWB?

I tended to download episodes twice mpeg4 for my zodiac and divx to convert to mpg for my DVD burns.
(the divx plays on the zodiac but its really high res and strains the hardware a bit)
just for the heck of it I tossed the divx onto a cdr and put it in my divx player and WOW is all I can say VERY high res and very clean on the television !!! from 5ft I really can not easily pick out any artifacts !! Very impressed guys. I am going to buy another one of these to stick in the family room (5880160275 on ebay no I'm not selling them yes worth every openny of $83)
Man I can ALLLLMOST read the web pages when they put the monitor in the camera view. ALLLMOST :-)
Very cool. I still prefer to watch portably but this is definately another very convenient cool high res way to watch DLTV
Keep up the GREAT work guys !! I always forget the squeaky wheels gets the grease. time for the lubricated or working great feedback to make some noise.
I really hope this show is working financially I dont want to see it go away. Would love to see you expand with more shows and more episodes !!
Once again keep up the awesome work. salivating over tommorrows download !! of todays episode (missed the livecast)

Can we get some more descriptive names so that when we look at the RSS feeds, we can sort of tell what the main highlights of the show are before we open the link.
