Here's to hoping Microsoft doesn't botch Office 2007 ...
Do they have a "typewriter mode" in Word that doesn't try to second guess everything you type and screw up the formatting beyond repair?
Or change fractions to dissappear when you open a Word doc on a different platform.
Please give us some way to totally turn off "autoformatting" and any other clueless "automatic" functionality!!

Yes!!! I totally agree with you Robert about Office dumping all its icons directly into the main programs folder in the start menu. The current versions of Office I'm using still do that, and I've always manually moved them into their own folder. That alone is almost enough to warrant getting a new version of Office.

This was the most unstable stream I've ever had with dl.tv. The first half of the show was really bad with lots of jerkiness and buffering going on. Most the time I have bittorent running in the background and I still manage to get better results than I did this time with nothing taking up bandwidth in the background.

I am on comcast. I too have bittorrents going. It was not choppy at all. I live in Chico, California. I can say that it maybe your local connection.

Yo Great Scots...I dont think Patrick wants to walk around San Fran in a dress.

Robert doing Linux? Damn, he is getting sexier by the minute..
I wont be able to laugh at Robert for the password: Ive been using my kids name/birthday as password for most of my installs except for the latest Linux/XP dual boot on my old Thinkpad where I added his birthdate in the american style (months, then date).
i went nuts trying to figure out why the password I have used on over a dozen install wasnt working.

I wonder if the guys talked about Yahoo partnering up with spam kings Claria? Instead of these bastards being sued out of their pants and have their bodies covered with leeches (as well as anal warts for Scott VanDeVelde and the rest of the board), its goodbye Gator and Gain and welcome PersonalWeb and 40 millions clean dollars. They did a lot worse than Barry Bonds to millions of people around the world yet managed to buy themselves a new virginity.

Im suffering from podcast burnout and have quite a few Twits and Diggnation which are only partly listened to but DL.TV and I are still in the honeymoon stage and Im looking forwards to this one as well.

I don't know about SpyCatcher? It claimed a VB.FRX file was a keylogger. An FRX file is nothing more than bitmaps/ICONS and other form art to be compiled into an executable etc... It quarantined one of my RTF files because it contained a Macro I wrote to launch a cpl in the control panel for one of my program's hlp files. Yes, hlp files contain legitimate macros sometimes. However, it didn't find that macro in the actual hlp file that was in the same folder. It disabled every DVD, video and mpeg codec on this machine! Guess what? Spycatcher no longer exists on this machine... Oh well, worth a try I guess.
Yeah, show us Ubuntu, so far I've had the best luck with that one. It appears the best way to log into root is to reboot the machine and do so then...

Is it my imagination or did the scene where Robert couldn't sign into the root of OpenSuSe get altered? I guess it is a pleasure when you can just redo the parts that don't go right. I'd say you now have a credibility issue. Later...

Hey dudes, office v.x on OS X has had an contextual formatting pallete thing for years. I can't stand using the current Windows version office. Beta looked good.
Gentoo Linux is great for customizability.
Not for installing quickly or exploring the plethora of software available, becuase of the install from source code nature.

Patrick, Robert...
It's pronounced sooz-seh.
As you know, SuSe is a German-based distribution. As you should know, the U is long and the E adds an "eh" sound onto the end of the word.
Sorry... it's just that was bugging me.

Randy the little bit I know of linux is if you want windows and it to run at the same time you can duel boot off a partion. I was told by a friend for it to work and I don't know if its true or not you have to have windows installed frist then install your linux distro after. Most distros have the option of duel boot, or at least the distros I have used did.
Also great show!

Anyone notice that looking at Robert Heron speak, he looks like he's out of sync with the audio. Would be impossible to read his lips if you were deaf LOL. I was checking to see if my audio was out of sync, then patrick started talking and it looked normal, then Heron started talking and i couldnt tell lol

Hey, good to see a Linux segment. I've been using PCLinuxOS for 3 months now.. (3 months switch from win).
The distros like SuSe, PCLinuxOS, Ubuntu.. these days are doing a great job making it easy and making it look good!
I hope they have a Linux segment every show (or at least every other one), its a windows world but its also a mad mad world :)
Awsome show guys, KIU (keep it up)!

He ye I have used Ms windows from 95 to XP and all I can say is that Suse Linux is a really great Operating System. I use it on a Sony Vaio and it supports everyting dual screen (Xinerama) wirless kwirless I use kde with the open GL screen savers and also the 3ddesktop eye candie was really fun. Not to mention every killer app preinstalled Openoffice,moz, etc. And i really like how the virus protection sorry root password! keeps all that malitious software out.

After many frustrating attempts to try Linux over the years (I'm not very geeky but I keep trying ) I discovered Ubuntu ( odd name) and it loaded and just worked!
So now I am a proud Linux user of one week and I'm liking it a great deal. I wonder how this compares to Open Suse? A comparison would be helpful and informative.
This is a great show Robert and Patrick and nice to hear Roger behind the scene too. Keep on keepin' on and thanks!

Yes! A comparison between SuSe and Ubuntu would be fantastic! I too am interested in loading Linux on an old box and I can't decided which Linux to try. I hear great things about both SuSe and Ubuntu.
To me SuSe looks better visually, but I hear Ubuntu is pretty simple and elegent.
And a linux segment every now and then would be great in general.
Keep up the great work Robert and Patrick!

To get a root shell in ubuntu, just type this:
sudo bash
And enter your user password.
There you go. Same as OS X.

"It's pronounced sooz-seh.

-------------------------------------
That's actually not quite accurate.
When a word ends in 'e' in German, it has the 'uh' sound. Suse = soos-suh.
Geschichte = Ge-shich-tuh
eine = ein-nuh
seine = sI-nuh
Porche = por=shuh
Americans pronouce Knoppix wrong too. In German the K is pronounced. Kah-noppix.
