You do not need a dual-layer DVD burner to download and install Vista 64-bit. Don't believe Robert. I did it over the weekends.

It was tough. Download speeds were insanely slow. Xcell energy started the rolling blackouts while i was trying to download Vista. Windows hated me for turning it on during this great peril.

Howdy folks. seemed like a nice show....well, sort of a nice show. More audio then video in my case. I"m sure that it had much to do with only getting around 150KB/s download thru Verizon's EV-DO service whilst traveling across the hills PA. at 65+ mph.

I've found that for the most part I'm getting d/loads in the 600 - 800 KB/s range while stationary in a major city. (except for Buffalo NY...what's up with that??) The latency is relatively low. I wouldn't game with it...but, pogo.com or some such other time waster site does fine. Away from major cities (except for Buffalo) I'm ony getting 14KB/s downloads. That is just barely enough to watch MLB thru my slingbox at home...ha ha...

Y'all do a mighty fine job. I'll send pics sometime of the whole geek thing going on in my truck. Robert, sorry dude no wifi yet....

peace
7s and 8s
I"m outta here

My dual boot of Vista/XP went perfectly and even though my computer is almost three years old it runs Aero Glass perfectly. Office 2007 is running well on both XP and Vista, and plays nice with Office 2003, although Outlook 2007 usurped Outlook 2003.

I'm pretty happy with both vista and 2007. I think MS is doing some good stuff.

If the DL.TV crew can't repost the ASF stream the same day that the show is done, I'm sure other people can. This wouldn't serve DL.TV as they would not get credit for the number of people who view it. It would serve DL.TV to get off their butts and provide this for their viewers. I'm currently looking for sites that host 200+MB streaming video for free.

well its a shame as I liked the show but that was the last episode of dltv I will ever watch. Not being able to go past the ads made has made me angry with it to the point I cant watch it anymore. You wont be forcing me to watch ads so Im gone. Im sure I could get around it but not worth the trouble. yeah who cares about losing one viewer? lol I bet there are many more the same and that its the difference between your success and not. Congrats to whoever thought up the idea, you have killed the show in the long term.

Dude, the ads are what keep the show going, its not gonna kill you to watch a couple minutes worth of ads in a 30-90 minute show. sheesh.. if the ads were not there, then the show would not exist. the ads provide money to pay for bandwidth, and cool new toys to show you. so... go eat a cookie while the ads are there if you dont like em. damn. what an ignorent prick

PGP creator Phil Zimmerman announces encryption program for VoIP
From BetaDot:

Phil Zimmerman, creator of PGP, the encryption so secure it's outlawed in many countries where strong encryption is illegal, has designed a new VoIP encryption program.

This one, Zfone, is designed to encrypt VoIP traffic to prevent anyone from capturing VoIP packets and listening to them.

The method of encryption used is significantly different than that of PGP, however, it is key based. Rather than be user-based', the key is session based, each session of a VoIP call would generate a new encryption key. A full public-key layer was not the method chosen, as it is slower, and complicates matters too much.

The thing that bugs me about the ads is that they are almost always the same ones, every time, in the same order. I actually got excited to see the USPS ad (and I live in Australia!) because they were different. Actually, to make it sadder I download dl.tv and burn it to VCD or SVCD to watch on my TV.

I have no problem watching new ads at least once if it helps out the show. I just wish there was some variety.

Posted by: david
June 14, 2006 5:44 AM

LOL I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with you shane.

Seriously, I'm not a bot or someone from a ad-firm. Its just that when I watch TV often I just ignore the commericals, but since DL.TV has short commericals I just sit there and watch; since there really isn't much time to do something else. Though it does get repetitive seeing that PCMAG or ExtremeTech commerical over and over again.

I guess I've reach the low end of life ;_;

Posted by: dumbbunny

Well!!! Loosen up you shorts will ya,as if you`ve never seen a commercial before.

Hi - i'm in the market for a high-end laptop and would have liked to see the macbook pro or even macbook compared to a windows laptop with both running windows - it's a comparison no one seems to make but which i know a lot of people are making (myself included).

Otherwise, as always great show.

Well, if you don't like the ads, I'm sure the guys would love for you to send in the money for them to make the show, that way it can still be free.

Posted by: Niax
June 14, 2006 1:05 PM

Well - yes, i have to download it, as staying up till midnight to watch it live isn't such a good idea. On the occasions where i have seen it live - I do get a bit annoyed by the ads - given that we've seen them over and over again.

But the plan becomes un-glued today because they haven't put it up yet

Posted by: Utahcon
June 14, 2006 1:29 PM

Seeing the same ads over and over is annoying, but then if they had more companies willing to advertise on DL.TV then we would see more. Maybe the part of getting more/better ads is that of the viewers using those ads which are already being used.

Has anyone else noticed the amount of ZD ads though? I am thinking that the other ads just arent producing revenue for the companies paying for them.

I hope I am wrong, because if I am right DL.TV is not long for this world.

can we stop talking about the ads and go with something a bit more important...like the content of the show. i thought the GBA movie viewer was a cool piece of equipment.

Suggestion for future program: you should mention real ultraportable laptops... As an user who uses mainly these type of laptop I must say that 12-13 inch screen machines are exactly "worst of all". Too small to be of use as the larger screen ones (if you wish for that go over 14 inch screens) while too bulky to be really ultraportable and with no computation power in advantage to the really ultraportables which are in my opinion now made only by Sony and Fujitsy (anyone else?): 10.6 inch screen ones...
So, it would be nice to see 10.6 inch laptop overview...

On another note, iRex iLiad vs. Sony eBook reader comparo?

Did I miss something? Was there something special about it?

a lot of the ultraportables don't sport built-in optical drives. i have a thinkpad x60 (their "portable" version) and the optical is actually in this silly dock thing, not in the actual laptop. but hey, that's what alcohol 120%'s for!

Patrick, for god's sake, I know you're super paranoid, but can you stop raggin' on encryption! It's not a "or so you think" issue. Good encryption, with strong passwords, is unbreakable by any means other than brute force! Barring some insane break through in mathematics, this will continue to be true. Now, I understand that flaws in certain encryption implementations (such as WEP) happen, but there's no magic machine the NSA has that can crack properly implemented encryption.

Besides that, I'm a very happy viewer. Thanks!

What's with all the stupid cheap universal remotes?
Is that supposed to make their desk look techy?
Cheap RCA, Cheap Sony and other remotes.

Continue on informing others of the deterioration of their privacy rights. I love how people respond by going (in dumb voice) "I hope it doesn't get any worse. I trust the gov't and big businesses."

I think Jim Louderback missed the boat by not highlighting the new Lenovo 3000 V 100 which is 4lbs, runs 5 hours on battery, has dvd optical drive, 1 gig memory, 100 gig hd, and more for $1600. The Dell is nice but expensive, the V100 in my opinion blows the other 2 laptops away with power and features.

Posted by: some random guy

Wow, Louderback sure didn't give Patrick much space there during the laptop deal. I was so distracted of him making sure he was talking all the time, I couldn't pay attention to what the result was. But anyway, great show as always!

$80 for the movie player? No way... if you buy it from lik-sang it is only $30. Same thing as the M3 shown in show.

Get She SD version over the CF. The pins on the CF are prone to bending. my first one only lasted 6 months in the hands of my 8 and 6 year olds.

Also be aware that the conversion software is buggy and does not work if you have Nerovision installed.

It also dees more than just Video. Really worth the $ 30 bucks (but not $80).
