What's on the show?
- What happened to the live show on Thursday, or "just because the Internet means redundency doesn't mean connection won't choke."
- Terabyte hard drives, increasing areal
density with heat, and a whole lot more: Patrick sat down w/ Brian
Dexheimer, an Executive VP from Seagate
- The Quiet PC Part II: the graphics card cooler gave us a huge drop in noise!
- Curtis from Calgary, Alberta, CA reminds us: dB is a relative measurement
- DNSSTUFF.com: Domain Name Tests, IP Tests, Hostname Tests... one seriously useful website
- A
very nice treat for the first person to correctly answer our obscure
movie reference! (And some other great movies that have a black case
that glows.)
- The power died on his external HD: Bartholomew
wants to know what to do next.
- Buy
a notebook now, or wait? Gary needs help on buying a notebook,
and Mermo's around the corner. (And would a desktop be a smarter
choice?)
- Colin
from Ames, IA has the scoop on who will win the Blu-ray/HD-DVD battle... the answer may surprise you..
- NCAA
FOOTBALL 2007: Thumbs up or down?
- Judge
rejects US request to drop on AT&T eavesdropping lawsuit: the
battle between privacy and national security scuffles on.
- Guba.com gives MPAA new tool to fight piracy. Wonder if it'll show up on YouTube soon...
- A kinder gentler Microsoft: 12 steps, and Google as a search option.

Didn't Brian Dexheimer say that we would see terabyte hard drives before Christmas 2007? That means we won't have the terabyte drive this year, doesn't it?

I thought Patrick said there would be a list of quiet PC parts on the site, but I guess not. Anyone have a recommendation for a quiet 400W+ power supply (preferably cheap but keeping quality high)?

Thanks for the show.
I love your show, but I have to admit your commercials are really terrible. Canīt you get something funny or interesting like the apple spots?
I actually went on youtube so see them after Leo mentioned the spots, since I wonīt get to see them on the telly overhere in Europe. ;-)

Yeah it's too bad the TeraByte is still a bit of a wait, this means you'll have to buy 2x500GB just to install Vista.

Is ONE mid-carrier like 'Tiscali' able to shut you down? How's that even possible? Pat didn-t really try to explain that but rather went on his own version of 'what the tubes do'-for-8-year-olds.
The cloud get's thicker;)

You guys can basicly be yourselves and that is what makes this show great to watch. There is no strict guidlines you guys have to follow about saying certain subjects which allows you guys to have a lot more fun with the show.
That porn thing that robert said to pat at the end of the show was soo damn funny that when I saw pats face; I almost spit my dang tea out onto my keyboard.
Great stuff guys keep up the realizm. It's nice to see for a change.

I love this show as much as the next guy, but if they made many more a week I wouldn't have time to watch them all. Also I would be more concerned will filler which would then in turn take up more time. Right now I look forward to the next episode and would hate for it to turn into the type of thing that I don't enjoy because of my inability to keep up with the episodes.

If the staff can put the full 15 minute interview with Seagate's Brian Dexheimer, that would be great, uhm, yeah. Sigh. I wish Hollywood would make a sequel to the movie, "Office Space".

Hey guys, I've been watching your show for a while now, but who checks the spelling on ya show. A number of errors were spotted this show. Segate instead of Seagate, Technolgies for Technologies. Unless we spell differently in Australia?

The titles which appeared during Brian's segment are, "Executive VP. Segate Storage Systems" (shown no less than three times) and "Future Hard Drive Technolgies" shown once. You people are utter morons. Incompetent morons. Go hang your heads.

Let's get this right out in front: It's FREE.
Wow. Really? I guess I should stop logging in with my VISA card. Yes, we KNOW, it's FREE. How does that excuse a lack of tolerance for criticism, disappointment, etc. when Patrick, Robert, and DL.TV fail to deliver on their word? Oh, that's right& It's FREE. Yes, I suppose it is, isn't it. Thank you for that bit of news.
Even if something is FREE, that certainly does not excuse nor does it exempt that person or thing from criticism. Here's a recent example: On DL.TV's home page, it says The next episode of DL.TV streams live Thursday, July 27th, 2006 at 4pm PDT, 7pm EDT, 23:00 GMT/UTC, and will be available for download Friday, July 28th.
Simple enough. It emphatically exudes confidence and competence. It doesn't say We're really gonna try hard to stream the next episode of DL.TV on July 27th, 2006 at 4pm PDT&but we're not really making any promises, you hear& So when the show actually turns out to be ARGUABLY the best slide show ever and NOT the promised live streamed show, why is it so hard to be tolerant of individuals who tuned in and were utterly disappointed and left remarks to let Patrick and DL.TV know about their experience? What's that you say? Oh right, It's FREE! Hmmm& There seems to be a bit of a disconnect, but okay, thank you for the information about the show being FREE.
Strange, I don't recall anyone who posted criticism asking for their money back. I guess the word must be out on this whole FREE thing you keep talking about. It might also be practical to mention that when one gives their word, they should either keep it or expect to be criticized when and if it is not kept. I'm sure if you failed to keep your word with your wife, husband, or friend you would be summarily and deservingly criticized for it, correct? Even if your word involved doing something for FREE, right? Wait, what are you muttering about over there&oh right, the show is FREE. Got it. Thanks.
The point is this. The FREE thing is not at the heart of this issue. What really turns people off is someone(s) who either can not or do not keep their word. In short, if you say you're going to do something, then do it. If you don't, expect to be criticized. Period. But it's FREE! Thanks again for that. Perhaps that should be the chorus of the DL.TV theme song.
As for excuses, well, they're just that excuses. Nobody wants to give them and nobody wants to hear them. Yes, things do happen, but that still does not mean you're off the hook. If you give your word and don't keep it, expect some criticism (even if you've got a fistful of excuses). But it's FREEEEE!
Yes, I suppose it is, isn't it. You have been a well of knowledge on this matter and I can not thank you enough for all the information about the show being FREE. Thank you.
Oh, and don't worry about this posted criticism. Since Criticism is NOT tolerated at DL.TV, this post will disappear before you can say It's FREE!

Patrick and Robert:
I watch DL.TV via subscriptions to the video and audio podcasts using Instant Media. I just finished watching episode 79 and had a good laugh during "The Quiet PC, Part II" segment when Robert stuck his finger in the fan to stop it the first time.
The sound was very unique and I recorded it (of course I put it into Adobe Audition to see what I could do with it.) After a little "tweaking," it made a nice laser blast effect! Now I'm going to try that with all of my smaller fans (just kidding.)
Anyway, thanks for the great show and exciting tech news!
Sincerely,
Danny (from Chicago)
