I love that Y2K count down timer. I assume that's stock footage they've had for all these years. You'd think after six years the batteries on that would have died by now. :)

I cannot get the show to display by clicking the link, it flashes.... something but I get no show. I launched VLC and am watching it that way, but just FYI. I am in San diego on a wireless connection, but it's worked every other time. Also this is the first time I have watched a live stream on my HD CrtTV, I've watched it via download on my Tv before but this is my first live TV show.

Amazon S3 cost
Pay only for what you use. There is no minimum fee, and no start-up cost.
$0.15 per GB-Month of storage used.
$0.20 per GB of data -- $200/terbabyte of traffic.
On 1and1.com
1 terabyte per month is .. $7.49
A little math game ...
60 terabytes with an average of 200megs per show download is 60E12/20E7 = 3E5 - 30,000 downlads, and then 8 shows per month -- 4000 viewers per show -- not counting those cranky geeks! Ouch - not at critical mass! Probably hard to get thousands and thousands of dollars for ads with this level of viewership.
You can count on me being here. ;-) good luck.
g'day

Just a suggestion all you DLTV guys (not just Patrick and Robert) might want to SERIOUSLY consider!
How about re-streaming the show after you make it? Seriously, you'd just need to use two tapes per show instead of one. Tape one could be used the way you do now although you wouldn't immediately make the show available for download once encoded (and you'd have TIME to encode it too). Instead, use tape 2 to stream the show to the web on whatever schedule you like! That way, you and your advertisers can be assured that the commercials are being viewed as long as the only way to receive the show is via web streaming. Once a newer show is produced THEN you make the older show available for download. This could eliminate the late night encoding parties and you would have had plenty of time to have encoded the show not to mention the redundancy factor for times when any ONE tape is eaten by gremlins.
If that's not clear, think of it this way: Once you make episode 100, tape 1 immediately goes to streaming every hour (or whatever schedule you like) while tape 2 is encoded. Once episode 101 is produced then episode 101 immediately goes to stream (replacing episode 100) while episode 100 is made available for download. And so on and so on... And if done right, you don't necessarily have to rewind and replay the tape over and over either -- just stream a "specially" encoded version until it's time to be made available for download.
This could potentially solve your advertisement needs as well as the usual bitching about the show not being available for download on time. Personally, I'd LIKE to see a repeat of the web stream since I seem to ALWAYS miss the show when it's streamed live. However, the only "cost" I can see would be for additional bandwidth and an additional tape machine (however, I doubt Ziff Davis is short on cash either).
...Oops! Maybe I should've emailed this. Oh well...

WWDC is for and aimed at DEVELOPERS not the consumer, that's why there were no stupid "iPhones" or iPod updates.
It was all DEVELOPER based, not exciting for consumers exciting for DEVELOPERS.

I discovered some old "Screen Savers" episodes on You Tube, and realized (I'm old and slow) that the soft-spoken, respectable Patrick Norton of DL.TV used to be a sledgehammer wielding agent of high-tech destruction.
I know it could be age, medications, or increased liability insurance that is holding you back. But if you wanted to bring back teh crazy for old times' sake, that would be sweet.
Even if not, you guys rock. Keep it up.
Cheers,
Jim

1- You might consider using Xvid encoding instead of Divx. I've found the quality better, and being open source, you might not have to pay a fee to use Xvid (if you do now for Divx).
2- I see that, although the close-up shots of Patrick or Robert are quite sharp, when you switch to the camera that shows the whole set (and both of you), it seems (often) to be a little out of focus. Are you using a different (bargain-price) camera-type, or is it that you only have one cameraman (Roger?) trying to man both cameras? Is this possibly some artifact of Divx compression?

Patrick all version of os x are not FULLY 64 bit. 10.5 is the first or what apple says on their main website about 10.5 sneak peak is "Bridge the Generation Gap
Now that the entire operating system is 64-bit, you can take full advantage of the Xeon chip in Mac Pro and Xserve"
NOTICE I SAID ARE NOT """FFUULLLLYY""" 64 BIT

Great show Guys!
I tried Kubuntu, 6.0.6. LTS, on my Asus A8V (Via KT800Pro chipset) with an XFX 6800GT (AGP) vidcard. The installation was all but flawless. The only 2 things it didn't install drivers for was the 6800GT and my X-fi soundcard (there was no driver available from Creative at the time). I had to put my old Audigy 2 ZS back in, in order to get sound driver support. The OS worked well, but I couldn't get UT99 running properly, so I went back to the MS side. A fresh install of XP is always refreshing (once the tedium of installation is over). I really should make an image of the drive once all the drivers are installed. Apart from Norton Ghost, do you guys have any ideas for the best disk imaging software? Thanks!

62 914 560 MB / 200MB = 314,572 downloads
divided by 8 shows a month is about 40,000 downloads per show. That is pretty damn impressive for a video show, twice a week.
BobSam you were out by a factor of 10.

US-based Linux Noob here - I just installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my wife's old Gateway 1.8 GHz PC w/512 MB RAM - and so far, runs fine! :) I especially love that OpenOffice will open our MS Word files w/out a hitch.
Now, can anybody recommend a licensed way I can watch and burn DVDs on this box, and use iTunes on it? While I got no problem w/civil disobedience in a good cause, my wanting to watch commercial DVDs or listen to music I d/l'd to my iPod on a Linux box doesn't quite fall into that category - yet. (Though Patrick's report a few months back on Torturer General Gonzalez's equating making backup copies of your DVDs and games with child molestation! - and terrorism!! - just might change that.)
Every time I Google "DVD Player for Linux" or "iTunes for Linux", what I get are long rants about Do(i)J's criminalization of DeCSS, links to what amounts to DiY downloads requiring "compiling" codecs and other elements...or links to five-six year old articles promising "Legal Linux DVD player JUST around the corner!" So - can somebody point me to a licensed in-box (or in-d/l) DVD player solution - and a licensed version of iTunes for Linux?
Thanks!
