READ THE FREAKING PAGE!
"Episode 87 went live at 4PM PDT, 7PM EDT, 23:00 GMT/UTC and will be available for download Friday, August 17th!"
The show is live every tuesday and thursday from a little before 4pm pacific, 7pm eastern or 23:00 UTC and lasts about 40 minutes. In those 40 or so minutes there is a link on THIS page that says "Click here to watch the live streaming show." or something like that.
It's not that hard. Just go to dl.tv every tuesday and thursady at 4pm (pacific time) to watch the show live. If you can't figure that out, why are you watching this show anyway?

Hey guys, love the show. I've been watching it since e.30 or thereabouts, and usually watch it with my stereo. For this episode there was a sort of high pitched screetching (quite annoying) that you could really hear through the stereo. Didn't get quite so pronounced when I heard it just through my desktop speakers. Just wondering if there might have been an issue there. This has never happened in any episode i've watched. Just FYI.

So you want the government to record all of your overseas phone calls without a warrent?
Posted by:

August 18, 2006 9:17 PM
Robert, Patrick,
Stick to what you know - i.e, technology. What you and especially Robert don't know about the law and the Constitution is all too obvious -- and you will not learn much of value from websites. For Robert to suggest that one might read the Constitution (and Bill of Rights) and immediately be able to understand the possible Constitutionality of the NSA program (or any Constitutional issue for that matter) is patently absurd. If it were that simple there would be far fewer attorneys (a good thing) and there would be no ACLU (a very good thing). You are entitled to express your opinion as to whether the NSA program should be utilized, but you certainly have no basis in knowledge to comment on its inner workings nor how the legal questions it raises should be resolved judicially.
Furthermore, the court in the NSA case is merely a lowly district court (surely meaning an appeal as Patrick correctly points out) and, some would say, that the judge's opinion exhibits a clear pre-existing bias by its failure to analyzye countervailing arguments. So, please wait until these cases (yes there are more cases involving the exact same question) reach, and are decided by, the Supreme Court and then decide on whether or not to celebrate (not that you'll really understand whether you should or not).
And yes, I am an attorney.

Intrepreting the Constitution in its application to the NSA program, as well as all other Constitutional issues, is not, and should not be, a political issue. It is solely a legal issue. The ONLY proper political issue regarding the Constitution is whether or not it should be amended. I do not take issue with the political aspect of Robert's statement or position, but with his purporting to base it in some knowledge of what the Constitution says(i.e., Constitutional law) -- a subject he which he obviously knows nothing whatsoever about -- and a subject that a mere reading of its provision (while lauditory) will never suffice in providing an understanding sufficient to form a considered opinion on such a complex issues.
That said, it is not a simplistic question of whether Billybob or I want the government to be permitted to record our overseas calls without warrants. It is solely a question of whether the Constitution permits it under the Fourth Amendment as read along side the the various other provisions of the Contitution. If someone thinks it is really as simple as Billybob would suggest, please do read the Constitution/Bill of Rights and try to find the language that explicitly permits abortion, or requires criminals to read their Miranda rights, or that allowed racial segregation until the 1950s.

as an alternative player there is VLC (vvv.videolan.org)

One question, I've been using VLC for months, yet I did not see a single person mentions anything about the seeking problem that I always have with certain codecs???? Those problems disappear when I use other players&.
And BTW, you do not need to install all the codecs or even VLC, all u need is ffdshow and windows media player. ffdshow will handle all the codecs through its dll libraries and even support subtitles and many more features...try to get one of the latest versions from free-codecs

Last episode the video and audio where very good and for the first time the stream actually worked fine for me. I didn't try the stream for this one but the downloaded .WMV (after it finally got released) was quite dark and the audio had a horrible high pitched squeak all the was through.
BTW: I hate Quicktime almost as much as Real.
It will try and install automatically when you go the the website and the default is to install iTunes (I know it's not hard to figure out for use geeks but most people don't read that stuff) PLUS unless you know what you're doing it will take over File Types and Mime Types.
THEN it dares to put itself in your tray and make shortcuts everywhere and it won't stop runnig in the background unless you go and manually rename qttask.exe yourself!

I was watching the segment on locking up your laptop. Another thing that helps detur theft on my Macbook is something called iAlertU. It's a program that uses the hard drive protection sensors to detect if someone picks up your laptop. It also monitor keyboard, mouse, and power connection. If any of these are breached while the iAlertU is active, an alarm will sound and at the very least cause a scene. I agree that the best way to detur theft is take it with you, but in the small town that I live, the hotspot owners know me and would stop someone when they hear the alarm. Another cool thing about it is that it's activated by the remote, and makes a sound similar to that of a car alarm activating. I believe there's also something available for the IBMs that have hard drive sensors too, but I haven't looked much into it. Despite all the other comments I thought it was another great show.

Sorry, Robert, but your supposition about capslock's history is entirely wrong. It's a legacy feature from manual typewriters, which didn't have shortcuts to change things into all caps after the fact, and actually -locked- something physically, hence the name. No lounge suite for you!

I was amazed at Robert Heron's lack of understanding of two seperate NSA programs. Warrantless eavesdropping upon which the judge ruled is not the same thing as the data mining operation. His comments mixed up the two programs into one. Seems that someone who knows the topic beforehand would take the time to educate themselves before they open their mouth. Seems to be a standard uninformed position of most young liberals in this country. Lets hope his lack of support for the government's effort to protect its citizenry from terrorists attacks does not take his life when the next attack comes.

It seems for unknown audience that the old saying went to not talk politics or religion, for thou shalt encounter countering/dissenting views, to which you may become perceived to be a fool on the matter.
Perhaps, it'd be better to make brief commentary and post a link or 2 that explain the situation (hopefully without too much bias).
Expressing views is the American way and so also goes taking the consequences for such actions.
One question I have is:
Does Patrick confer with Robert on topics before the show? It doesn't seem like this is happening. I think if both are in it to win it, then pre-show preparations could be done to avoid the insults for opinions not necessarily backup-able. Its obvious when Robert says things that torque Patrick off (ie DL.TV business model bashing). Confer! Its cheap, its easy its fun! (I hope ;) )

I love the program but is there anything you guys can do to reduce the audio level compression? There is practically no dynamic range in the audio and it's aurally fatiguing to listen to the show.

PJ,
"it's aurally fatiguing to listen to the show."
With all due respect don't listen so loud. Or play the show with smaller speakers like laptop speakers.
Your not listening to a record here, your listening to a "tv show". TV, especially the news, has very little dynamic range as well.
Sorry had to say it. Mixing TV is what I do. They could probably reduce some bass frequencies a little on the set, but the compression is ok for what they are. A lot of people listen in loud environments (like the car) where more dynamic range would make the show difficult to hear all the words as some fall below the sound floor. And some people listen very softly at work where they don't want the show to get louder all of a sudden and bother the next person over.

My computer is generally used for audio-recording and I listen to everything with near-field reference monitors. I can also assure you that the volume is at a reasonable level.
I'm not being an audiophile wanker here. The level compression seems vastly more pronounced than many other podcasts I listen to (including TWIT), as well as other spoken-work content I listen to (audiobooks).
The guys seem to put quite a bit of effort into tweaking the encoding for quality. I was just saying that a little adjustment in post-production could make a huge difference in the quality of the final product.

In general I agree with your openness; However, it is possible you might have an unpatched Windows XP system, or one that only has SP1 installed. Then someone with an exploited laptop connects to your wifi and that computers exploits launch attacks on your SP1 box, all this without the person using your wifi being an experienced hacker. In fact this is the person that scares me the most.
I have good reason to run unpatched boxes which in some cases certain software I have will not run on SP2.

I don't know how to get it captured anyway, I usually just set-up dual-monitors using my capture card then put WMP on the second "monitor". But today it showed up in black-and-white, and it stretched out everything and gave my computer a heart attack.

Hey!
Are you using the correct year's calendar? Did you read the date off of one Dvorak's cards?
Seriously - your show is great! Congrats on one survival!
