Riyad,
with respect,
AnandTech and many other review sites have gone through the processor and put it through its paces. The Core 2 is definetly a lot faster than the Core Duo (Yonahs). The major disadvantage they have found is that hte new Core 2 Meroms are more starved on the FSB speed and that severely cuts battery life on current Yonah chipset laptops. When the Merom chipset laptops are released there is no reason to believe that Intel will not have this starved pipeline issue resolved and will achieve similar battery life to the current Yonahs.

Also, take note that once the new chipsets come out it will be a chipset designed for the Merom Core2 processor and not one designed for the Yonah Core Duo. All previous benchmarks have been achieved using engineering sample Merom chips dropped into existing Yonah chipsets. You haven't seen what the Merom core's can do until you've seen actual Merom chipsets benchmarked.

If Merom was so much better then why are they matching the prices of Yonah and Yonah prices are remaining the same? Ugh! The disappointment continues...

Check out the TV promo that the national Cable and television Association is running on net Neutrality
http://www.ncta.com/ContentView.aspx?ContentID=3526
Does anyone but me feel like the end users are going to be paying the price no matter if Net Neutrality goes through just so the ISPs can line their already stuffed pockets a bit more?

Since when is 8-15% not a huge increases. I payed a few hundred more for a Core Duo that was 2.166ghz over a 2ghz, and that was only 8%.

That still doesn't explain the lack of price drop for Yonahs...
Could you post some links to these Merom reviews you mentioned? :) I'd be glad to read them! Thank you :)

I'm still not feeling the love nor luv for Merom. Perhaps, as was said earlier, the Merom based chipsets will do them better justice - otherwise I'm staying clear til then. Too much to spend on something that only has a small increase in performance and an increase in HEAT (bloodyhell!). I guess buying a new laptop will be on hold until Yonah prices actually drop or the Merom chipsets make the performance worth it.
Vista ineednotware, foistedware, or whateverware, has not shown any compelling reason to switch/want to switch other than to need to upgrade hardware. Or, if you are a gamer, you'll be locked out of DirectX 10. Seems fair right? Fair only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades or so it seems.

Raine,
I appreciate your reply and yes you are absolutely right Anand did a great quick link:
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808&p=10
But that's the 8-15% I'm talking about (it was 11-21% in the review, but I'm ignoring the outliers because my guess is for encoding the bigger L2 is what is helping).
So I think we both disagree, that we agree with eachother... or something :)

The Santa Rosa Platform's "Crestline" Chipset will
hopefully be what makes Meroms worth their silicon.
It will bring 800MHz to the FSB, vice the weak 667MHz
currently supported by Merom.
What's in Your Chipset?
4....3...2..1.
I can't wait anymore!
Drifting..falling..growing impatient!
Going going hoooooome hooooooome!
Maybe AMD (who?) will get off their collective arses
and make something that can compete with Merom and
make this all a win/win scenario!...someday..maybe?

Hi! I liked the overclocking report you did on this episode. Most of the people want to get all the best performance from their hardware but there are also a lot of people that want a silent computer and they get this by underclocking it. Could you do a little report about this issue? Thanks!

To Anonymitious:
Going over underclocking seems just like a
recommendation really, I mean alls you have to do is
just slide the sliders the opposite way in the overclocking software no?...
OR
Don't buy screaming hardware that would require
..underclocking in the first place?

Patrick, you're a bit hazy on the process so here are the countries with no extradiction treaties with the US (Robert take note!):
Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bophuthatswana, Brunei, Burkina Faso, Burundi,
Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, China (People's Republic of China), Ciskei, The Comors, Cote d' Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Indonesia, Jordan, Korea (South), Kuwait, Laos, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Maldova, Mongolia,
Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Oman, Philippines, Principe and San Tome, Qatar, Russian Federation, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Samoa,
Yemen, Zaire, and Zimbabwe.
Those have some diplomatic relations and so some deals COULD be made if the payout was right but these
babies have NO diplomatic relations and no extradition:
Andorra, Angola, Bantu Homelands, Bhutan,
Bosnia, Cambodia, Ciskei, Cuba, Iran, Korea (North), Libya, Maldives, Serbia, Somalia, Taiwan, Transkei, Vanuatu, and Vietnam."
Robert, if I were you I would go with either The
Philippines or Taiwan. Both speak pretty reasonable english, food is decent, standards of health and living are decent. The Marshalls might be nice if you
want that tropical paradise kind of groove but the living conditions are dicey and prices are way too high!

At work:
I too continue to use MSPaint for captioning photos and the like. The photo imaging software we use here at work is MSOffice Picture Manager (mangler ;) ). It gets the job done and helps out with a good autocorrection feature.
At home:
drawing-
My favorite program was the old Deluxe Paint II Enhanced by EA. I wish EA kept developing/supporting it (it got to version IV then dropped). It allowed you to capture areas and SAVE them as brushes for later use. You could edit any loadable picture's palette and edit the palette on screen. It had some awesome filters for photos. The user interface was really intuitive and comfortable to use.
If you are a fan of DPaint, I hear Ultimate Paint is very similar to the old DPaint! :D It looks good, haven't tried it yet though. If anyone is using it, please let me know how you like it :) Thank you!
http://www.ultimatepaint.com
I've also used Corel Draw for some things, its interface isn't bad either. I like it because it is a vector based drawing program. Things resize etc smoothly because the lines/shapes are created mathematically. Everything is smoothed out, unlike BMP's and JPG's. Theres some learning curves, but none too steep. It produces some great effects for drawings and photos!
http://www.corel.com
I've dabbled (minorly) with a program called TrueSpace as well. It's used primarily for creating 3D Art. IF you can grasp its user interface (Caligari touts so highly) you will be able to create some amazing life like renderings. Very fast prototyping with nurbs etc... let your Right brain shine!
http://www.caligari.com
Photos-
I've been using either ACDSEE or PICASA, neither of which I'm thrilled with at the moment.
http://www.acdsee.com
http://www.picasa.com
Yeah, I like drawing on the PC, though I will generally draw something free hand and then do it on a PC.

First Great JOB! but Watching ep.90 and wondering what happened to the "Frugal" Patrick and "Pressure Pushing" (On Companies with lousy Specs and High prices) Robert (although he still is for HDTV's) BUT on you recent Laptop Roundup I quess I was hoping for someone (other than myself) to bicker about the lousy specs on dells' RAM/HDD/DVDR DL/other components, because I was able to "Customize" on thier respective websites and create what would be 3500 for about 1300 without all thier Bloat-ard/software! But you still did kinda touch on all the subjects just didn't hammer the companies as musch as used to in "TV days" (but maybe they're paying ya which I kinda understand I guess ...uhhh where'd my soul go?) anyway GreatJob!
