Touch Sensor + Car alarm = No cats.
Theory: If a cat jumps on your hood, the car sounds the car alarm for ~20 seconds. The Cats will eventually learn, Robert's Car = Loud Noise.
Sure, your neighbors may hate you... but no cats!

I have 4 cats, one female who gave birth to 7(seven!!!)
kittens, called Daisey cus she looks like a cow, and one pure black kitten/cat who liked the way I fed it.
Daisey climbs over the front of my car every night it is parked in the garage so she can hide in the pull-over door (which I never, ever pull down, cus it will never ever go back up) and puts paw prints all over the drivers side of the window.
I love that cat so much it hurts

Why so negative?
You're lucky to have gotten a reply and one that
states they'll do what you asked for.
They may not have "delivered" on what you asked for
..yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing their
research for a segment on GPS units.
Impatience will just make you seem ungrateful and that
you have a lack of understanding as to how they go
about making the show.
Anyone can do a Google search and spout some results
from some other sites.
Pat and Robert tend to utilize ZD in-house reviewers
that have the time to do or have already done reviews
on what you may ask of them to review.
So, be patient.
They have many people making requests for reviews
on many things.

Howdy Mike,
>>SAD Patrick
SAD Mike, You emaild me about this like a week ago!
There's like six of 'em from Garmin, Magellan and etc.
I have to test them, which means working nights or weekends, since I can't do it during office hours (and GPS doesn't work indoors...), 'cause, hey, I've already got 50-60 hours a week tied up inside the building keeping everything else rolling, write everything up... then shoot video or figure out how to talk about them in doors where GPS devices don't work. It's time consuming.
I want to do it right, so it's not done yet! I'm doing this because I like GPS stuff and want to do the hands on work, so it should be a damn good review.
>>don't make promises you can't deliver on.
Uh, I am delivering on it... a freelance writer would probably spend a most of a work week testing these units and writing 'em up... so figure I'm trying to do 10 or 20 odd hours of testing in my free time... plus sorting out the analysis and not end up divorced for ignoring my wife.
So, please, be patient, OK? The handheld GPS reviews are coming.

I agree with both Chad and Steve Gibson that if you are concerned about outbound traffic, that a software firewall is a great option but some routers (one example if the Netgear WGR614) allow blocking specific IPs by specific ports. This isn't an all or nothing option but may have been what Patrick was thinking about.

Hey Robert,
Have a friggin' heart about those cats. Paw prints on your car will not stop you from attracting the ladies (or guys, whatever your inclination). So relax, enjoy your fish snacks, have a coke and a smile. Otherwise, we'll have to call the Whambulance for your being a little too fussy. :)

Spy Sweeper is better than Spy Doctor. I would loved to have seen a comparison to the freeware. I use AdAware and have been warned that it is spyware in itself, lol.

Guys!
Please...wtf is up with the Wild Kingdom clip of the bird eating the bird? Is that what passes for cool and entertaining?
Yah, beyond our comfy geek lives, it's what goes on in the real world and "it's natural" but who the hell really wants to see it?
If that's entertainment, why not show clips from Faces of Death, footage of meat packing plants or Bill Gates running on stage?
Food for thought from a bird brain,

Well, Partick, I like your show very much but I am so tired of this Government and all of its Spying and Lying I must report to all of you that in order to feel safe in my own home I must cut the cable and shut off my Cable Modem and stop my HSI service. I'm sure this issue has been all blown out of proportion by the media. But Yesterday Donald Rumsfeld spoke of how the Government has been going through databases searching for information leading them to terrorist suspects. That was the last straw for me. I'm fed up with the FEDs and I am mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more! I will diconnect my service and keep my info out of all the databases I can to keep the government out of my private info. Comcast will lose my business and so will AT&T lose my telephone business. I will start up again after hopefully we get a Sane President in that Office. This Spying issue makes me so uncomfortable using the Internet and I am tired of paying full price for something I'm afraid to use. I'm not getting my monies worth of service. Perhaps if enough of us canceled our accounts Comcast and AT&T would think twice before just handing our private info over to the Government without a warrant. I see no value in a service that does hand over my private info to anyone without a proper, legal warrant! You all have fun! I will look forward to returning after Jan 21st 2009 or when these silly little laws that void our privacy go away.
Perhaps Patrick or ZiffDavis Media might like to write somebody in power telling them that you are losing business due to their evil spying practices which scare off Viewers, Listeners and Readers.
Bye-bye!
Kelly

As far as direct connecting his cable box to his display is concerned, I can't say for certain if there is a method of that. I have seen DVI covertor/scaler boxes (http://www2.dvigear.com/vitodvisc.html), but those are obviously an expensive solution. A much more affordable solution that I have used in the past is a video capture card. There are many models, both internal and external, and by utilizing a capture card and the included tuner software you will be able to watch TV on your monitor. Good luck with that!

MS pulled a fast one with the announcement about streaming video to the 360. Apparently MP11 will stream it but the 360 won't accept it. We have to wait for a 360 interface update. Great I updated to Beta 11 for no reason.

I have had really slow download speeds (5-15kb/s) for the last few shows and this forced me to try many different things from reinstalling and updating Windows to many Linux options.
The best option that I have found (believe it or not) is to find a working proxy HTTP or Socks and test. My download speed have gone from (5-15kbs)to(100-300kb/s).
If you find this helpful E-Mail me at: linux_rootsu@yahoo.com

Hey when I sent the email to Patrick and asked for him to do a review on gps units and happy tree friends I got the impression that he was ignoring my emails. He did reply and say he would do a review in a future episode.
I was expecting it to be done in the next episode and I didnt realise that he does alot of the behind the scenes stuff too and is exremely busy. So I did reply and apologise for my critical remarks. Only positive emails from me from now on. I do feel a bit sorry for Patrick and hope he being rewarded financially for his efforts.
I have been watching Cranky Geeks and it too is good watching.
Also I am looking for a pic of a friend of mine who lives in the UK and could be Robert's twin brother.
When I find it I will email it through.

"Did it seem to ya'l that there were a couple of times in the show that Patrick was ready to tell Robert to shut up because he didn't know what he was talking about (ex. firewalls and routers)"
It certainly did, however as annoying as I find Robert, he was right about the Router/Firewall thing. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but they were both talking in broad generalizations, making Patrick appear arrogant and unable to admit a simple mistake.
A NAT router, by definition, is filtering/routing inbound traffic only. Very few routers have outbound firewalls built in.

Robert:
I hate quicktime also. I will not install it on any of my machines. I would be happy to tell Apple what is wrong with it for a couple grand.
You don't need live callers.
Threaded viewer comments would be good.
I want to hear how a router can block outbound traffic from spyware. How can the router determine whether the traffic is legit or its source?
Saints Row segment was a snoozer.
What's a "PSP"?
Most important thing to say about WMP 11 is that you can no longer download WMP 10. Even if you click on dl link for 10 you get 11.

I agree 100% with Robert on this issue. Patrick is wrong on this issue. Hardware firewalls on consumer grade routers do not block outbound traffic and it does not matter "how you have it configured." Patrick was about to mention something about port forwarding or something but quickly backed down when he realized he couldn't back up his assertion. This is the primary reason Steve Gibson recommends a software firewall in addition to the hardware firewall if one is overly concerned with security. You could completely block ALL outbound traffic with a hardware firewall, but definitely not on an intelligent level that would make sense for functionality.
