I have been experiencing really slow download speeds and after trying many different methods the best results have come using a proxy. Both HTTP and Socks proxies work well. !!This is only for those who are having slow download speeds!!
Before Proxy: (5-15 kb/s)
After Proxy: (50-400 kb/s)*
!Results very dpending upon proxy speed and location!
These sites offer free proxies:

Ok, look guys- stop whining EVERY WEEK about the download speed- if they could fix it, they would. I've watched this show almost from the beginning, downloading it the next day once it's ready. The big concern I see is- CONTENT. There are many things that would be a good topic for the show other than listening to Robert talk about aspect ratios every week, or doing viewer mail for 15 minutes in a 40 minute show. More interviews? How about some tech walkthroughs? Example- show us how to set up a USB thumbdrive to boot linux as a diagnotstic/ recovery tool... lots of write-ups on that out there. Bring back some of the TECHTV magic that we all want....

Try it out. Visit a friend or a store and check out the monitors. I would stay away from LCDs for fast FPS-style games or movies. Even the low latency LCDs have noticable ghosting. But that's just my opinion/preference. Conversely, I would definitely get a LCD if you use it for long periods of time for non-video related work/play. I work on an LCD all day and game on a CRT. CRTs can kill your eyes if you stare at one all day. And, if you're going to get an LCD, get a wide format one. But again, that's just my opinion/preference.

No one's whining about download speeds. Did you not watch the show? It was the size of a postage stamp and unwatchable. THAT'S what everyone's whining about. We know they can't do much about d/l speeds, but they SHOULD be able to control the size of the stream they provide. If bandwidth restrictions are the cause of the tiny show this week, they might as well not do a live stream.
I love the content of the show, and have watched every show thus far without ever whining, but this is the first I (and apparently everyone else) have seen of this postage stamp-sized show. Content is great, but when you can't see it, it gets annoying.

I agree with BC to some extent. I would like a 60min show though. I would like more of things like on Geek 101 overclocking Graphics cards but i also like the viewer mail. Three shows a week would be great too. I would like some more of the segments from TSS. Maybe you can get Sarah to come work for DL.TV along with Pat and Rob. I know she is on vacation but that would be cool.

I'm sure some form response/explanation to all the dissatisfaction will be promulgated by Pat or Rob up top afore the next Tues show.
I think perhaps its one of a few things:
1. trying to please everyone so the encoding won't take as long
2. trying to save money on bandwidth
3. giving day to day complainers something to complain about (revenge)
4. -oops can't have more than 3 for a few ;)
I also would have to agree with a sentiment on a bit too much info on monitors, aspect ratios, and scaling chips - s'ok to include it but not everyone lives for it. Not many really care about Vista as you do, the price being the first thing to drive people away from it.
You've a bunch of PC hardware-hacking-Multi OS using-Do it yourselfer-Gamer-modder-programmer-freaks for viewers.
I mean is this all about music/video drm and playback? I hope not!

Hi Guys,
I'm turning off rant mode (yay!)
From what I did see of the show,
it was great and had some interesting items
that I probably would not have been exposed to
had I not watched the show. :)
There must be many PSP'ers!
I've not had a handheld game since my Space Invaders
game back in the early 80's.
Once the PC became an addiction, I played games exclusively on the PC.
Things like: Mine Sweeper, Tetris, Breakout (variations), early RPG games King's Quest etc and then mostly arcade shooters. (the old vector graphic BattleZone rocked!)
Handhelds just don't do it for me, I think its the keypad interface thats got me turned off to them.
Console controllers are the same kind of turn off.
I'll admit I did have an ATARI console and really liked it (tho I think back now and its graphics sucked ..a lot). A 2 button controller is nothing, when compared to todays standards.
The PC Keyboard (with a fully justfiable Caps Lock key hee hee) can have so many "unique" functions, where as a button laden console controller requires numerous combinations that must be pressed.
Console FPS games just aren't the same and very difficult for precise sniping etc..
If ANY console game system came with a keyboard and mouse (that interacted with its games ;P), they'd never keep them in stock!
Think of the huge number of finger injuries caused by repetitive stress that could be reduced!
(tho the keyboard/mouse isn't ..that much better lol)
I just don't understand why they don't do it.

Inconsistent as usual(haha, consistently being inconsistent) Typical of DL.TV, I really wish they would put a set time for the downloads to be available. If its difficult to encode the video by the next day then make it available for 2 days later say at noon or something.

What the hell are you on about broadcast code, you are talking out of your rectum.
You dont have to pay Microsoft or licence anything, anyone can create a video wether its a podcast or a movie of you playing a game and encode it to WMV and post it wherever they choose.

Enable to implemet ASF within an application, you need to pay the licensing fees for it's use.
Some components will not be allowed for use within a programming IDE environment unless you acquire a license of some form for their use.
Virtual dub is one other example of this. Many people wanted to be able to use ASF within virtual dub but when you go to try to open an ASF file up, a dialog pops up saying that ASF couldn't be implemented because of licensing issues

Well hmm, the last downlod of Crankygeeks was pretty small too. Maybe it's a budget cut. Perhaps Patrick will have to curb his trips to Baja even more than usual.
Really, I'm clueless as to the what or why. It's a free show so some of the snarky comments aren't warranted but a little friendly ribbing is welcome.

Guys, if you want the best upscaled DVD image and STB feel check out Theatertek. It is a $70 program but well worth it, I have been using it since the early days of HTPC and it is simply the best....How about a review. Just thought I would let you know...lata

Hey, is there any chance of Roger getting some air time? He was great on Call for Help back in the day.

Tivo recently updated my series 2 dvr with the new kidzone software. Now changing channels and getting program guides takes an extremely long time. I know that from watching the show, Robert is a big Tivo fan and I was wondering if he is having the same problems.

I thought you guys were going to start "monitoring" the comments section. If so, then how did the idiot post his "cornflakes" spam?! So far, it's the weirdest posting and kind of concerns me that somewhere someone like that can use a computer -- or own a car! (Maybe we should report him/her as "suspicious" to the government now that it can all be reported online. Hmmm?)
Also, any comments on Lloyd's "weird week"? How about offerning him a report segment on the show? (Perhaps on a monthy basis at least, if scheduling is a problem that is.)
