Definitely an improvement with the site, guys. The smaller and more compact design makes it much easier to navigate. Huzzah to the gents (and ladies) of DL.TV

The site is nice - we need cartoons of Robert and Patrick on it. High tech version of Itchy n Scratchy.

How is it possible to sit down with someone who makes money by helping ISP's scam their users out of the bandwidth they pay for, and not end up a criminal?
Posted by: Clark September 22, 2006 7:14 PM
The site is on par... compared to what it use to look like.
It will infact be doing the same thing it did before, and then some...
forums/ chat anybody?
none the less, good episode yesterday

I dont like the new look the web site is less user friendly than it used to be
Posted by: GraceMolloy September 22, 2006 7:33 PM
Like the update!
Gonna have to play with it before I know for sure but so far it's a lot better to look at.
Posted by: RobertB September 22, 2006 7:40 PM
Looks awesome! The navagation and speed are way nice. I like how the home page a million lines long with 2 dozen flash players loaded. It makes it load and move so much more smoothly. Can't wait to see the forums if/when it goes live!
Posted by: RobertB September 22, 2006 7:41 PM
Should have probably put an "isn't" between "home page" and "a million"... durr
Posted by: Kritenks September 22, 2006 7:51 PM
I dunno. Everybody must be using adblock or something. Either that or they're looking at a different site because the new site looks terrible to me. Its so crowded, boring, Grey! Very Ziff Davis, very web 1.0 (i know, the whole Web (1|2).0 is lame)
You need to borrow some designers from Cnet or something! I'm sorry but it just had to be said.
I do love the show though. :)

The Neuros OSD's sold out in a matter of hours when they were posted, but some dork already has some on Ebay!

The new website is great! I love it!!! Keep up the great work. :)

WOW ... on a scale of 1-10 this website is a kerjillion (no...its not a new number) Times better than the community server version...

Posted by: chupatumama September 22, 2006 9:17 PM
Mike G. is right on the money:
Its not much prettier but it is definitely more user-friendly.
Of course, Web 2.0 means that you dont worry about pretty anymore, you just follow the stalinist party line.
This what this side needs more of;

Much better look to the site. Like having the downloads next to the better flash player. Beats clicking on another page.

GREAT layout guys!!! What a difference a little code makes. You guys are starting to look all professional. Just don't let it go to your heads. ;-)

Everything looks 1000 times better!! GJ guys
Posted by: Intentsly September 22, 2006 11:22 PM
Anyway..
The site organization looks better. Colorwise, I think it needs more Tope and Lime Green (meaning lose the Gray!). This isn't some stalag or goulag behind the old Iron Curtain, this is DLTV! Theres a lot of colors in that webpalette, choose Lively!
Lighting started out good, then got dark for some reason.
Great show, had lots of interesting tidbits!
Did you read about the Automated Teller Machine scams going on? The manuals apparently are on the web and if the machines didn't have the default passwords changed, the default passwords are in the bloody manual! Easy to solve once they all send techs out to make sure all the defaults were changed. lol!

Episode 96:
Robert's report form CEDIA, iTunes 7: Performance issues...

Beautiful transition guys i love it...very professional when compared to the old orange theme system

Freak'n Sweet! Love the new sit guys! I like that it fits in my 1024 screen now without the side scroll bar. All the files are right there, really nice and clean. Don't listen to the other guys and gals, the grey looks good, beats the hell out of the orange! ;-) Just one gripe... where are the forums???

New site looks great guys.
For Dan who is looking for Linux video codecs, Linux Journal did an articale this month about using H264 for Linux and the special settings for QuickTime. Apparently Apple does not use the codec to it's fullest potential, so care must be taken to make sure QucikTime can play the files back.
Their forum has a thread about it here; http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9005 the aticale will be on the web for free next month, or pick up a copy now.

Too much minutiae about HDTV.
HDTV is not interesting to a hands on computer geek.
1. None of us can afford one.
2. If we could afford one we would buy it and not want to hear any more about it because
3. there isnt anything to fart around with on it. You take it home, set it up, watch for a while and decide that all the shows suck and bitch about having to watch 20 minutes of commercials every hour.
OK, wait. too expensive? 37" screens are under $1,000. You can get a 32" for less than the price of an underpowered Pentium D.
An HDTV is basically a very large PC monitor. Sure it plays TV, but it also adds a whole new dimension to your PC.
If you're not using it that way, you're certainly entitled to bitch about network TV (although there are hacks to get rid of commercials in media center, which is a great way to enjoy HD for free).
If you're not farting around with your HD, you're not trying hard enough!

This new page style took much longer to load on my DSL and seems to take a bit more CPU while reading.
It's also appears to be much longer, so I'd lose some of all that extra white space between posts here!
Posted by: JCH September 24, 2006 4:02 AM
Addendum: It says "click to play" on the embedded video but all that does it get the popup where you have to click again to actually play it! Misleading!
Needs to say something diff as before it played directly on the page...

I tried to download your mp3 of thursday's show on itunes, it was a minute and 35 seconds. What happened? Tried to get it off of your web site, same size. You must fix this, I can't download every video podcast, they are too large for my satellite internet.

I would like to say that this "Rob" dude needs to be a bit more professional, if he's got any credibility to make Pat feel stupid.
It's just out and out blatant ego bashing for the sake of their own.
Instead of coming down on someone for not knowing what you know, why not hook a brother up and inform them of what you know.
Claiming someone else is stupid over such minutia is pretty weak.
Why not make it a Win/Win situation and lose the ego crap!

xvid > divx
vorbis > aac
What's going on?
If you can't get the "xvid encoding tools" (what DO you use?) get to work you really need to employ somebody who has at least basic computer knowledge.
Sorry for the flame but you really embarrass the crap outta yourself by saying you can't get xvid to work.
Vorbis isn't patent infested as aac. It's free. It's open. The quality is either on par with the best aac encoders or better (aotuv tunings). Hence there's no reason to choose aac over vorbis at all.
So next time you shop for a portable audio player make sure it at least supports vorbis and flac.
Why don't you send them an email telling them what you know about xvid and how you got it to work.
Or perhaps ask exactly what was/is causing their problem(s) with it and offer some advice.
Otherwise yer ego is just off-gassing and comes off as being arrogant, insulting and if you are in the field -unprofessional.
Lose the hate, life's too short!

Colors Colors Colors
I don't mind Orange, it's just combining Orange and Gray !
A Color Schema Idear:
On the following site (and others):
mnartists.org (no I have no affiliation with this group, just using its page as an example)
there's a dropdown list of pre-made color schema for the site. Choose a scheme and it reloads the page with the color scheme you chose. Does this sound plausible or does DLTV not get to choose its color scheme(s)?
I think it'd be an awesome customization that would please viewers and make them feel more at home.
What do you think?

One other patent-free sound format is Ogg Vorbis. Ogg is a very clean and capable format. I use the speex variant for voice-only files, evp primarily, and it is sweet.
BTW the site looks great, more cleaner.

Is there a addbuffers command or registery hack for my slow laptop to buffer the HD (Compaq M2105) after all these years I'm still finding things the Amiga did write!
Can you guys do a review of MasterShaper from mastershaper.org which is a opensource packet shaping software?
Posted by: Chris September 25, 2006 8:37 PM
Wow, definitely a decent overhaul! It may not be the best looking thing ever, but man, the site is actually usable now!
Posted by: anonymous September 26, 2006 4:49 AM
I don't like the new look! It's too buisy and "noisy" like every other site on the net. I come to DL-dot-TV for one thing and that's to watch the shows! Now I'm less likely to watch and keep up since I now have to find "add block" or something like that as well as customize my browser so I don't allow your double-click and other similar freaky advertisers to track my cookies, visits and god knows whatever else they do with that code you now post all over your "new and improved" web site. IT SUCKS!
Remember: "less is more" and "bad bedfellows commune bad disease" (like your HTML/XML advertisers code might do from dingle-doinks like double-click and such)...

re: anonymous
Psssst most of those ads were there before, but they were repositioned on the page. I think the Google Ads section is the only new one. BTW, those ads keep the content free for us, the users.
Didn't your mother ever teach you... if you don't have anything nice to say...
I think the site looks great guys! Keep up the good work!

I took my 17" widescreen notebook on a trip to Austin Texas recently and had NO problem going through security AND there was enough room on the tray to be useable (until the person in front of me lowered their seat back).

I couldnt understand what Mark Urban was saying about "
que-west"? What was that all about?
I am tired of hearing about BlueRay v. whatever the other one is. Blue-Ray is such a cool name they should call it BlueRay no matter what.
