•  Cheap GPS Nav systems? Pat, we've got two great options: Streets & Trips 2007 and Garmin's StreetPilot i3
•  Where did the DL.TV Flash video with the individual segments go? Click on the picture, and the big Flash video player will pop right up.
•  Kim wants to know if flat speaker wire sounds as good as the round stuff.

computer case charity

Dude, a computer case can be had for

Being an IT student, a case is to be had for free in a thousand different ways - legally. Hell, most people would be willing to practically GIVE away recent equipment.

Thanks Patrick for the GPS review.

I ended up buying a Tomtom go 910

October 19, 2006 7:43 PM

Hey guys the laptop in the car for gps is not practical. You dont want to leave it in the car so pack it up and un pack it again doesn't work. Up on the windscreen is the best solution. My tomtom gives the street name and is very accurate.

Posted by: victor_c26
October 19, 2006 7:45 PM

For the using the laptop as a GPS device:

If audio volume is an issue, just connect the laptop's heaphone jack output to the car stereo's Aux in, or with a Heaphone jack to Cassette Adapter used with MP3 and CD players.

I thought you guys would like to know an even easier way to add art to Itunes.

Step 1
Select an album and then Highlight all the songs or "select" whatever you want to call it.

Step 2
Same as Patrick on Episode 104, search google.

Step 3
Now istead of saving the Picture just click and drag it to Itunes on the start menu, bringing Itunes to the Fore front. i tunes should be in classic veiw with the stamp that says place artwork here in the bottom corner activated buy clicking the show artwork button. Now just drop the picture.

Bam you are done.

Good show, I'm a fan from the Tech TV days, it's actually sad what G4 has done, but I am glad I watched the OG tech TV programs most of which were very informative.

Keep up the Good work.

You guys should try Delorme Street Atlas. Its works similarly to Microsoft Streets & Trips and in fact you could reuse the same Pharos GPS antenna that ships with MS S & T.
Delorme reads the specific name of streets (using narrator in Windows) rather than just saying "Turn left in 300 yards" as in S&T. It is much less ambiguous to use than S&T
The only drawback I should point out is that its not as easy to use as S&T. It will take some time to get use to it. The software alone runs about 40 bucks

Did Robert say wal-mart and shit?

Posted by: F The FCC
October 20, 2006 5:16 PM

Yes, Robert did say "Walmart or some shit" during the GPS segment of the show. I love uncensored moments like these. I don't believe the earth spun off its axis when he said it however, so any uptight viewers that also caught the verbage can come out of their bunkers now.

Posted by: LiK
October 20, 2006 5:25 PM

i agree with Robert so much about that begger. STOP asking for free computer hardware from DL.TV. get a part-time job and buy new parts yourself. what a loser...

The Show Notes is displaying the wrong web link to AllOfMP3. And how can AllOfMP3 be giving away free MP3 songs? Is the show notes just wrong?

October 20, 2006 7:05 PM

Guys,

I dunno if this is just my computer, but in iTunes, all the DL.TV podcasts are appearing twice!

As I said, it might just be me, but if anyone else is having the same problem, maybe someone at DL.TV can fix it?

Loving the show as always. Keep up the good work!

S.O.S day two - I have a Question and if you can address it in the next show that would be Great.

How can people fix the Quicktime New Itunes 7 install problem? As you may know many people are having trouble trying to get this to work myself included... The dam itunes says it needs quicktime to install so ok I go get quicktime 7.1.3 even though I had quicktime already run the installer it crashes saying some unknown error happened. Ok so I uninstall the quicktime i have maybe that's the problem.. now I have nothing and it won't install and says same error message, please for the love of god .... PLease tell me what is causing this I can't figure it out and now I have no quicktime and no Itunes because the install never completed...? How can apple make this thing so bad..... PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE>>> S.O.S

my ipod is losing all it's life, i think it's dying because it has not seen itunes in weeks... PLEASE anything you can do would be much appeciated.. thankz

I love the show, so please send me not just a new PC, but buy me a HOUSE, with a POOL, and PLASMA-TVs in every room, and I want a CAR too, and golden spoons etc... - don-t respond to these stupid², sorry people who seek (and get) your attention for no reason. thx.

I have to agree about the hard-drive advice. "If you don't happen to have a clean-room". I hope he was being facetious. I bet 99% of people couldn't replace a phonograph stylus properly.

Good show.. Hope it feels good considering Pat and whoever may have killed TWiT, but at least Patrick tried to show up once in awhile, unlike "whiz kid" Kevin Rose. I think I might just say MEH on all internet tech shows, it's all buddy buddy, until the $$ comes in, then it's whomever can stick the knife in first. Sleep tight..

Posted by: Grace
October 23, 2006 12:33 AM

Dude, that's just cold. Don't even go there. I want Pat/Kevin on TWiT as much as anyone, but damn.

Posted by: sdf
October 23, 2006 5:07 AM

Hmm, might be a double post. Rose hasn't appeared on TWiT except to do public relations for his company since probably TWiT #12-17, and even then has only appeared for a few minutes. This is a fact, I have no feeling about it one way or another.

Patrick on the other hand has been a loyal contributor since the beginning. We all know Patrick's had a crazy week and obviously works his ass off for Ziff Davis, and it's unfortunate that Leo seems to feel a little disappointed by Patrick and Dvorak.

Patrick,

The RIAA and all these suits dont represent squat.
They represent probably between .00001 and .00002 of professional musicians in the US.
You know who they represent foremost: their pocketbook.

So stop repeating their press releases and saying what 'reprensentatives' here might say. Or name them as such.

I have yet to meet a touring band that has anything positive to say about these 'representatives'.
They rep the big labels, thats it.

Man, the timing of this episode could not have been better. The day before I watched a professor here where I work came to me with a dying hard drive. I could not get it to read the only directory that mattered to him which contained years of data.

After watching the show, I gave it all another go using some of the free trial versions of software mentioned on the show (runtime.org). A small purchase later, and 100% of the data that he required was recovered.

I can't wait to see more on hard drive recovery, this is going to save us a bit of money for sure.

Hey DL.TV Crew,
Some of you have noticed multiple downloads from this past week. We would like to apologize for said downloads. A change was made within the RSS that triggered "new downloads" of old episodes. This problem has been resolved and should not happen again.

Thank you and enjoy the show.

You are backsliding on vocal projections and enunciation. Too many parenthetical, under your breath asides.
Patrick's audio was a little distorted.

The Family Guy game reviewer energy level started good and descended gradually. It was as if during the course of the interview he became more and more convinced that the game really wasnt that good and he wasnt that interested. Whose idea was it to run the gay shower scene over and over?

My hard drive died .com segment was excellent.
More wiring talk tips please.

When you do a product review you should always repeat the product manufacturer and name at the END of the review. As a listener: "Oh he said the product name...who cares, brain erase this information...(the review progresses)..Oh wait this is interesting...oh shit he isnt going to say the product name again so I might as well quit paying attention..."
I would have signed up for the EMUSIC thing had you stated more emphatically that it would suppor the show and that it was only a one time promotion.

Patrick & Robert,

Concerning the guy with the "getto" PC--the one taped to the wood block--if you recommend a Linux distro for computers over 5 years old recommend one that runs well on older computers, e.g. Damn Small Linux, Xubuntu, or Puppy Linux.
