Hey guys...can you check out Episode 15 of security now? Steve says that the security of the connection is based on the website you're pointing to. (i.e.: the bank logon is connecting to an SSL secured site, negotiating the connection and sending the logon credentials).
What do you think?

sometimes the ssl is initiated from the http login screen only after the submit (so there's no cleartext password transmitted) but this seems rare - so look for the "https" to be safe, or use a sniffer if you're not sure

Doƶds,
I would like to disagree slightly on the secure banking session from work issue. The corporation from which a person is doing his/her on line banking can have a certificate server in between the user and the bank, and still show the lock, indicating security yet be able to read your online info. I wonder if this is not more common than supposed. I agree with Robert, if you are afraid of someone seeing what you are doing on line, don't do it.

Raphael: The cert server can't decrypt data unless it has the bank's secret certificate. So if they're using a third party certificate server or for some reason aren't running the certificate on their web server, you would be correct. I'd like to think (hope) that banks aren't that dumb.
But yes, even if you're on a secure SSL connection the request can be sent to a non-secure server revealing your data.

So which DLP TV was that? Seems Robt was very happy with its conections, processing and video quality but he did not mention the model.

My Previous post didn't seem to take for same reason, so here goes again:
Patrick and Robert,
There is no way you can convince me that you did not understand what Peter was talking about when he asked
"System Tray Icons - Is there an effective way to disable those annoying system try notifications that pop up in Windows XP?"
Can you say "Windows Genuine Advantage"? I laughed my ___ off when you guys went into a lengthy explaination of how to shut off other types of notifications.... Funny Segment though (for a Tech that knows better anyway) Cudos.... 1Tech

Don't forget Canada for North American daylight saving time. Except Saskatchewan farmers who don't change.

There's another alternative to locking down USB ports that doesn't involve chemicals or registry hacks.
Third-party applications are available where you can install clients on all workstations and decide who has access an who shouldn't all controlled and updated through the confort of your desk.
Applications like DeviceLock will even allow human interface devices such as keyboards to work but disable use of USB storage devices or any other device administrators wish to restrict.

If you do not want heat in your computing and want energy efficiency the TransMeta CPU is the only way to go. I have several Powermate Eco's and not only there is little heat, there is no noise because there is no fan running. Beautiful.

Ken, Another way to lock down USB ports, either on the front or back of computers is through the BIOS. I know that the BIOS on Dell's new computers have an option to shut down the USB ports, either just the front, the back, both, or only the ones you designate.
