STUFF
• Democracy Works: Or at least it should. We've been tweaking our RSS feeds.
• Daniel's looking for a tool to automatically generate the XML for an RSS feed. We use a custom tool, so that's out. Got a suggestion for Dan? Email us!
• Headphones under $100? We've got two suggestions for Michel! BTW, we love nosing around the Headroom website to check out the mad array of headphones and gear... they've got some pretty solid reviews, too.
• "Why are web cams so darn "up and down the ladder" on prices?" Bob, it's all about glass, sensors, processing and build quality.... other than that, not much difference between them!
• H.264 rendering? We found the Mac Pro 25% faster than the G5, Curtis... throw more memory at it and it gets even faster.
• Matt's looking for an external battery for his notebook. Electrovaya offers models up to 300Wh, they're the Cadillac, but they aren't cheap. APC has a low cost 80Wh Universal Notebook Battery that sells for under $200.
• Joe says "Blu-ray burners have dropped under $599!"
• Lego flamethrower? Very cool. Thanks for the heads up, Matthew!

That Dutch digital DVB-T television signal only has 3 free channels. Other tax payed stations (like a 24 hour news network) aren't even broadcast. Those are only available in premium cable packages.
The commercial networks (the ones with the fun stuff) are only available via DVB-T if you pay a fee that's just below cable.
There were also quite a few problems when the analog signal stopped. People who paid about a 100 dollars for a receiver found that they didn't get any reception or no indoor reception (they needed to get a new antenna). Now hundreds of complaints on a number of 16 million people sounds negligible. But if there are only a 75000 potential viewers, and some of them switched to satellite, the problems start to look worse.
The bitrate is also a lot lower than cable or satellite signals.

Laptop may be faster (haven't seen the episode yet, but looking forward to see the comparison), but setting both those computers up, as well as any other nearby macs, to network render that h.264 file (or any other format), and you'll see BLAZING speeds. I know for a fact that Compressor will do it; read the manual, it'll tell you how to set it up. BTW, if you do it, go with the 'Quick Cluster' method. Much easier

Mike:
Robert is a stylish dude w/ flair, its the caveman next to him that needs a makeover with Queer Eye for The Geek Guy....or a shower!!
Note to Patrick;
if youre planning to drop the motor on your wheels in the morning, ya gotta put some fresh clothes on for the vidcast in the afternoon!
First time I caught the show live in quite some time, it was smooth all the way.
Freaked out some friends with the quality of the image. Everyone kept saying "This is live?"
I guess when you are used to pixelated images that are buffering...buffering...buffering...

Why even use Democracy when you have iTunes ? It plays all your feeds with no problem. I found the experience watching other videos with Democracy to be mediocre.

On RSS Feeds, i just make my own with PHP, which would be auto generated from the Database which already has most of the info, say if i post on a blog or such thing.

I think Patrick should put his mic on his right side and Robert on his left.
When they both turn to each other or even worse to the big screen display the audio drops off a noticeable amount.
I notice it on my desktop when playing the divx file and also much worse after I compress the hell out of it and play it on my pocket PC phone.

If you're looking for the best under $100 headphones, I'd suggest either the Fostex T-20RP ($59) or T-40RP ($79). Tons of low-end and not so brain-piercingly bright as the Sony's. Don't let the low price fool you, these were the workhorses of every studio I've ever worked in.

I have a pair of the Sony MDR-V6 headphones (Since 2000) and I love them! I have had to replace the pads, but the headphones were worth the effort and their value is much more than the price.
I can, and do, wear mine for many hours everyday to keep out co-worker noise.

The NBC Heroes feed is only available to the United States, I guess they want the rest of the world to use P2P!
