I've never actually seen a Mio Digiwalker H610, but, every time I look at the commercial in your shows, right at the end of the commercial, the guy gets a disgusted, look on his face. Makes me wonder. He has a great radio voice, but, it looks like he's fed up after saying his lines. Just sayin'.
Besides that...Great show, guys. Keep up the great work and have a fantastic holiday.
Cheers,
Bill

As a previous post suggested, you appeared to be using the older 1.1.5 version of Open Office in your demonstration instead of the new 2.1.0. I will just say the UI is much improved since the 2.0 release.
Great show

yea OpenOffice 2.1 looks way better and works way better and has a ton more features, showing 1.1.5 was a bad idea. :(
I love seeing Roger Chang and all but he slaps hes hands against the table on the papers wayyy to many times, its kind of annoying. :)

Hi all,
As some of you pointed out, we demonstrated an old version of OOo in Episode 122. We'll correct that on the next ep. Other savvy users pointed out that KOffice is another (free) alternative that is often bundled with popular Linux distros.
Thank you all for watching and enjoy the last days of 2006!!!

The Wii forecast channel is nice, but it needs to get updated weather more often. It is weird to see a sunny symbol surrounded by moons when it is truly night. Like right now it says it is sunny in Denver. The last update was from 6:00am this morning. Wii forecast needs a little help and maybe some more image detail. Otherwise it is a fun and nifty feature for free.
As far as the Opera browser. I've only played with it a bit, but I have got it to play the dl.tv flash videos just fine. Although browsing on a 480i TV sucks, so I'll stick to a computer for my web browsing needs.

Hey Guys,
When talking about aspect ratio, you forgot to mention that certain dvd's are encoded with a 4:3 aspect ratio but are encoded with borders on the top and bottom. Instead of anamorphic 16:9 vid.
These will squish funny on most 16:9 hdtv's unless you zoom in properly.
A good example of this is the Robocop Criterion edition.

Why are you using an ancient technology of OpenOffice 1.1.5, when OpenOffice 2.1 has been out for so long?
Also, Roger Chang needs to stop slamming the table every half second.

As mentioned before, you're using a massively outdated version of openoffice.org. Export to PDF is a great feature, as is exporting presentations to Flash format for websites. Importing from MS Office is improved in v2.x, and there is a new database application to play with.
Oh, and the GP2X is cool :)

OpenOffice.org Points Missed:
1) As many have mentioned, version 2.1 is out now. Reviewing 1.1.5 is like reviewing Office 97.
2) OpenOffice is cross platform and will run on Windows, Mac and Linux!
3) There's a bit more than just word processing, spreadsheets and drawing. You left out the database capabilities, impress presentation software (like powerpoint) and the math equation builder program.
4) Ability to save in PDF and the new open document format.
5) Support for VB script is on it's way thanks to Novell (think programmable database front-ends).
P.S. A great addition to OpenOffice that integrates well is the Open Clipart Library. Check it out at: http://www.openclipart.org/ They have a ton of royalty free graphics that can be used with OpenOffice (or MS Office for that matter).

And I have to say... OO.o 2.1.0 is so much better than 1.1.5 and speed is DRAMATICALLY better. You'll notice that spellchecking works too. C'mon Roger, represent open source with the latest and greatest!

Jeez, guys..
I like your show for being "tech" and being "free", but why in the name of Zeus'es bunghole are you using ancient Open Office 1.1.x??
And while Roger was correcting his previous mistake about the Star Wreck being made by great guys in Finland, he made another one. Finland is in European Union and on the west side of the Finland-Russian border, not on the east side. And Russia is on the east side of the border.
Get your facts straight, because people can make mistakes, but making them twice makes you look a bit stupid, now doesn't it. I guess it the usual american "there's USA and there's rest of the world" geographical education thing.
To end my ranting I wanted to add something positive also. Great work for showing the cool GP2X portable device. I hope you find the time to hack it a bit more thoroughly in the future.

I have to agree reviewing OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 is really a bad choice. It was the last of the 1.x.x series of office packages 2.1 the current release is really way a head of that in all levels. I never used 1.x beyond testing as it wasn't good enough or compatible enough with M$ document formats. 2.1 really is up there.
No to mention it both reads and writes to the Open Document File format, which is an approved international standard.
Guys I think you will need to revisit this one, or at least in the next episode tell people there is a better version out there. :)

As many have said....
That version of OpenOffice is WAYYYYY old. The new version is much more compatible with MS, faster, better UI, etc. I must say I'm a bit disappointed you guys wouldn't go to the page of the app you're reviewing.
You're allowed one goof. I don't want to see you guys review anymore apps with a version that's about a year or so old.
You wouldn't review FF 1.5, would you?

@Roger:
If the globe reminds you of the movie Wargames, you should check out the game "DEFCON: Everybody Dies" (http://www.everybody-dies.com/). That game was one of my favorite games of the year, giving "Company of Heroes" and "Gears of War" a run for their money. Another nice feature is that it runs on nearly everything (I think that the minimum requirement is a PII) and you can learn it in a matter of minutes.

OpenOffice 1.1.5???
Version 2.0 has been out for ages now, and 2.1 is currently available.
The compatibility, speed, features, and look are much better than 1.1.5. Version 2 also comes with a relational database, to get a database in MS office cost about the same as the debt of three 3rd world countries.
You guys don't do enough open source stuff, other than mentioning the occasional bit torrent client, but then when you do cover something open source you do the open source a community a disservice by showing such an old version of a brilliant product.
