"The Show MUST go on."
Pod/Net-Casts will succeed only when schedules are set and met with great consistency. While life must also go on, and crew safety MUST be placed above all else, ready stand ins have to be "ready." A CES pre-show would have been smart - a look back at what was announced as the summer CES and a look forward to what we will likley see at the winter 2007 CES, might have been a good idea. A touch on what the CES is and how it has evolved would have been a nice spot on the side.

Regardless, you guys will do much better and give broadcast TV a real run for real money, when you play by the same, often brutal rules, they subjected themselves to for so long. While individuals may not be availavble, the show had better be, or advertisers will never take you seriously.

Guys like Leo over on Twit get hammered for this and his cred is hit, because there is no consistency - as a broadcaster he shows up with great regularity, but I'd bet a pile that he's pretty steamed when folks can't show for one reason or another - not even on a skpe call? That is lame. Good as you all are, you're going to get your butts kicked by the first people outside the distortion field surrounding SF that mandates that shows must always go on. So get and keep the lineup of people, stories and gear used to produce your shows squared away, locked down and as regualr as Sunday prayers, or someone else will.

@Lloyd - Shut up

@comeinme - Not an argument starter or having a go, but I was just curious as to whether you have ever emailed in some show ideas?

Its weird to understand (actually its not) but most people live inside the little box they call their life. While some people may be passionate about somethings and not about others. They may not get into other realms of other peoples lives.

I was (Still am although on a sabatical) a reviewer for mini-itx products for about 2 years. Most people never understand the concept, let alone the advantages and limitations.
Like bluray and hddvd. Go down Walmart now and ask the next 40 people who are buying hidef TVs whether they know what bluray and hddvd are and then ask them if they know whats bad about putting 480i content on them. They will most likely be clueless because as nerds/geeks/fanboys/enthusiasts we know more about things than other people.

So if you have a problem with the show content, send in some show ideas.

If you have already emailed in some ideas of things to create a show then disregard my entire post :P

But yeah, if I buy a HiDef telle which works at 1080p and is made by panasonic, sony, samsung or philips is there really anything else I should care about. The Show IS kinda becoming repetitive.

Tell me something I don't know guys.

AACS has not been hack as many people have tryed and cannot find the so called 'title' key or 'volume keys' so is it hoax u decide?

January 4, 2007 1:46 PM

Lloyd makes a good point from the point of view that
it would be good busine$$ practice to ALWAYS have a show ready to go

BUT...

If you could have seen the dedication and care that the DLTV family took to meet, greet, and be helpfull to people at last years digital life show in NYC...

With particlar note made of Rob H, who practically lost his voice from the LOOONG hours he put in on his feet answering people questions and to Jim L who pulled together an informal "party" so people could meet chat with the DLTV family)...

You would realize that (whatever else thier motivations might be) this is a labor of love for them and so (valid busine$$ considerations aside) it must first be viewed and appreciated as such.

That beng said, Lloyd's advice IS $ound and if followed would probably bring more $$$ which prbably would translate into more/bigger/better/happyne$$

(As always) I look forward to the next show.

Peace

Ren

Holy Cow! what happen to their audio? Or it may be just my speakers. anyway it sounds like they have the bass turn up to much. when ever patrick or rober talks, they distort the audio. i do really think they need to calibrate the audio. anyone els have this problem?

While I understand that DLTV is a business venture and produced with the goal to make a profit, what makes it appealing to me is that I feel like I'm inviting some friends into my home twice a week to talk about topics I'm interested in.

Hearing that Patrick was stuck in the weather and couldn't make the show makes him a real person. The personal glimpses of the cast's lives and opinions is what makes them real rather than the pasty crap you can get off any broadcast show.

While I'm always disappointed when a show is delayed (either live or for download), it's always worth the wait. When I'm downloading the show I feel like I'm unwrapping a boxed chocolate to get to the luscious treat inside (corny but true).

Since the demise of TechTv and the screen Savers, I have been disappointed that there hasn't been anything like it or as entertaining on TV. DLTV has filled that void.

Since DLTV is free, it entertains and informs me and I don't feel like I'm wasting my time watching it (unlike most garbage on TV) but actually learning something, I will continue to watch it without complaint or criticism (which is something others might try doing).

hey, may i suggest you guys ask a few digital camera experts/pro photographers whats top of the line these days? i have a general idea that canon and nikon are really well known for their quality and speed. how about panasonic-what do they think of its features, and which camera company makes a camera that gives satisfactory quality in movie mode that also records audio?
my current fuji 2mp feels crummy and movie mode is 10fps with no audio.

January 4, 2007 9:01 PM

Hey, no one is suggesting what these guys are doing is not great, or that they don't work really hard - quite the contrary.

What I am saying is that the shows are great and have even greater potential and if they are to grow beyond a group of really die-hard fans and bring in mainstream audiences and the resources needed to support that, then they are going to have to show up with much greater consistency. If their goals are less than that, cool. Regretfully, however, the world does not tolerate that well at all - things and people must grow, or they fade.

Regarding the AACS hack, I would point out that when DeCSS was released in 1999 the files sizes for a full DVD (roughly 8GB at most) made ripping impractical then as well. Now you have people ripping DVD to their laptop hard drives to watch on planes and long trips. I suspect that the video will be re-compressed like a lot of pirated DVDs are today. You can complain about quality, but the popularity of YouTube has demonstrated pretty clearly that people will watch content with horrible video quality, especially if it's free (like pirated content).

Went in a depression when the screensavers got cancelled, and now just this week I found DL-tv.

Gents,

Another way to get the weather in a cool way :

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge/kmzgenerator.php

From this page you can get a KLM file to download to google Earth. This produces weather overlays that can be used in Google Earth, so you can fly down to the area around your neighborhood you can watch the weather move. Very Cool

Patrick and Robert,

Fine show once again. As a truck driver, I use my power inverter 24/7. Streets & Trips has saved my butt more times than I can tell you - especially in NY state.

Be advised, the cigarette lighter plug supplied with many inverters, will NOT give you the full power rating of the unit unless it's 175 watts or less to begin with. For obvious reasons, that plug will not be able to withstand a 200+ watt surge. You have to wire directly to the battery or alternator for the full power rating of an inverter.

first thanks for the h.264 recco when I asked about the highest quality dl using the nick 'digital_b'. heres a suggestion. when I used to watch fresh gear I would immediately change the channel whenever digital cameras were on which was WAY too much. please try to restrict digital camera topics to once every couple of months because this topic is extremely boring. I understand that rookies need to get info about them from somewhere but jeez its very boring to watch. very boring.
