Episode 126:
Dual Format HD DVD/Blu-ray Disks (and Players!), Faster Firefox, Scan Film
DivX: 201MB
Right click and choose "save target as" or "save as" to download videos.
What's new in Episode 126
STUFF
• Scanning film? David Stone, PCMag's scanner mavin reccomends Canon CanoScan 8400F (or it's new follow up, the 8600). Six color scanning? Check out HP's Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner. BTW, OCR software doesn't suck anymore: OmniPage Professional 15 is the best OCR software out there.
• 1366x768: This is not an HD resolution. OK, it is, but it's really annoying.
• Power supplies... is there an advantage to putting 'em at the bottom of the case?
• Camcorders: SD vs. HD for Marcos in Brazil
• iTablet: Myth or Macworld? From Apple? Myth, tho Other World Computing will debut Axiotron's ModBook, a MacBook turned into a tablet before Steve Jobs keynote at Macworld next week!
• Thanks Lee, for the heads up on Weatherbonk.com. Weather meets the Google map API!
• We're going to CES in Las Vegas next week, you can come see us! We're taping Sunday at 1PM, Monday, Tuesday and Wedneday at 4PM. Our stage will be in the Sands Expo Center lobby, outside of Hall C. (The shows will be available for download Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning!)
NEWS
• Dual format HD DVD/Blu-ray discs and dual format players? Are HD DVD and Blu-ray coming together?
• Adobe Reader 6 and 7 have Javascript security hole... time to upgrade to Reader 8! Or better yet, Foxit Reader! (Has anybody checked Foxit for the same flaw?)

Just curious as to how you guys ended up with the quasi-hd resolution for the video. Is this the native video resolution the video is captured at, or is there some aspect ratio manipulation that takes place.

Why is Roger so hesitant to drive to CES with Patrick?

It's a dessert topping AND a floor wax! Love the Chevy and Gilda reference. Great show guys...good luck at CES.

Now that you have sponsors do you think they will buy you a machine that can get us a show within 24 hours of original airing?

Another way to speed up Firefox for all broadband users.

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

Again don't do this if you are on dial up, or edit the max requests to a lower value if you are on a slower broadband connection.

I may have miss heard the power supply question, but when the power supply iss at the bottom, the case is configured for the BTX form factor not ATX. hope that helps.

The video of Ronaldo's ex-wife and the guy was taken in PUBLIC by someone with the camera, not by them!
So I dont see an issue with it, it's not like Britney sued over her underwear malfunction since it was very much in public. I can't beleive you'd get things so wrong with something you discussed for that long.

This is one of the frist times I have watched past the credits and noticed that you guys included some of the special features from A Scanner Darkly. Whats up with this? and I'm guessing you liked the film as did I.

Robert, the other case that you were looking for with the power supply on the bottom is the Antec P180 case.
