I only caught the last 10min of the live feed this time :( With my cats growing up we had these coke cans with a few pennies or dimes in them (put a piece of tape over the hole). Whenever a cat would start chewing on stuff or doing something evil we'd launch one of those in the general kitty direction to scare the crap outta em. Seemed to work after a few scares!

I wanted to download packetgarden beta, I did.
I love the idea of my web surfing creating a unique world.

Except:
the known problems with the beta in XP prevented me from doing so

Known bugs:
Geographical location code doesn't work (compile) on a non UNIX system. No fix forseen
Needs a general speedup.
Shadow mode causes crash on NVIDIA cards. No fix forseen yet.
What OS was used by dl.tv download/run?

As far as AVG goes: Been using it since the icon was a man under an umbrella.
(I remember the icon not the year)

I am MORE concerned with zonelabs ZONEALARM going pay only. I caught a few stories here and there that stated this free firewall was going pay only, but nothing recently.
Any news you can give on this??

As far as software companies going from free-to-pay, SKYPE did it right. Offer it free for one year. Then allow unlimited calls for $14.95 a yr.

Brilliant! I paid my dues.

I guess what I am saying is that if you are a software company that intends to go paid, do not string us along for 5 yrs.
Make us pay after the first year and make the requirement known up-front.

AVG Free No More?

Hmmm ... Scared me for a minute there! Aah I know, its meant to scare so we download the show! Don't worry - I was downloading it anyway *grin* And it is remaining free - nothing changing except a new version which won't automatically install from the old version, you'll have to manually install it (once installed it remains automatic as before).

They've done it before and I guess they'll do it again - makes you come back to the site occasionally & update your licence to confirm that yes you're a person not a company.

ZoneAlarms (as of 5.0) sucks for one reason. Doesn't work w/ Azureus (and possibility other bt clients).
I'm currently trying out Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall. I had Sygate and that wouldn't remember to allow CS2 to connect and kept giving me pop up. Comondo worked weird and i couldn't get that thing to work.

The skins for Windows Mobile / Palm devices are fully functional. The slide to unlock even works, although it doesn't animate.

Hell, PDA users have had very similar interfaces to the iPhone for a very long time, and weren't too impressed by the interface. Yes, the iPhone has prettier icons, but I have been touching icons for ages, and even scrolling with my finger.

Yes the iPhone does have more feature than most PDAs/Smart Phones etc. the pinch to zoom thing is incredibly AWESOME.

The RDF seems to be strong around the iPhone. Obviously, the iPod was the first MP3 player, and the iPhone is the first device to have a touch sensitive screen?? And now it exists all other touch driven devices ever created cease to be?

I believe the Beta debacle was precipitated by Sony's decision not to license the hardware technology until very late in the struggle. Sony hardware was the most expensive on the market, many discount manufactures made VHS units hence the video rental stores began migrating toward the VHS only format. I had one of the first non-Sony units, a Toshiba, and the Beta rentals almost immediately began to dry up like lp's in the top 40 bin of a 90's music store.

Cats (or dogs) can be enticed away from chewing on electric cords by combination of providing new chew toys and covering affected cords with the product called "Bitter Apple" available in most pet stores. It worked for our small dog but beware that animals can have unreasonable minds. Our large dog would try it, make the most expressive disgust expression, shake his head and than ... try it again ... Reminded me of the Star Treck episode with Data learning emotions, trying some terrible drink, realizing he hates it, and that ordering more of it...
On practical note: safe for cords and pets, just yucky tasting...
