love the show as always, hate the new time. my son and i used to watch it live together via instant messanger, but it streams too early for us as we are on the east coast and we don't get home on time. any chance you could go back to at least one live show a week a little later, huh, maybe, please ?? well think about it. i'm sure i'm not the only one that prefered the later time. A BIG FAN from the early shows ......

XP activation is a deterant only.
When a pirate installs vista (With a legit key, mabey of his friends) and gets prompted to call Microsoft......The idea is they will not call.

Calling is no big deal. I ahve never had a agent tell me NO to geting a code to type in.

The motherboard in my mom's compaq was crap.(Brother bought her the computer as a refurb, big mistake) It would not run more then 15 minutes without throwing the drives into PIO mode. We took the machine to BestBuy for warenty repair. They said it was perfectly fine. (Because they never tried 2 actions at once.) We even replaced the hard drive. Same deal.
I replaced the motherboard. Mobo was to big for the case. Put mobo in new case, changed a few other things at the same time.
MS activation asked me more questions then ever before, but I got a code.
Do not wory about calling MS if your KEY is legit, you will be fine.

Are you calling to activate XP? YES
Is this the first time your installing this copy? NO
Why are you reinstalling? Motherboard fired, etc...
How many computers is this copy of XP installed on? 1
OK Sir, I have your key, please type it in as I read it to you.....

Re: RAM vs. HDD upgrade question

I'd pick the RAM upgrade because less disk activity = lower power consumption = longer battery life = good for notebooks.

Uhmm hi guys! - just watched episode 136... I thought you said you were going to talk about Mac OS X later in the week?... you failed!. I have to say that 99.9% of DL.TV reviews and comments are Windows/Linux related... WHY?. Do OS X users not warrant a mention? ever?.

Come on Patrick and Robert - sort it out - we *are* here and we don't ALL bow to Microsoft... PLEASE?!.

Do some Mac reviews - review the OS in detail so people can SEE what there is out there. Its all very well filling our poor minds with Vista this, Vista that, but vista is just a poor copy of the BEST os in existance. Thanks chaps - I always love your show.

PS: HD? sick of hearing about it Robert!

Mr. Heron:

The 9-11 hijackers flew out of Boston, so I can see why they may be a little gun-shy when it comes to items that may look like bombs at an airport.

Hello guys!
I wish to let you know that the latest episode (49) of cranky geeks has a damaged ipod version, the page indicates that it's a 101 MB download, but in reality it's a 223 MB download.
Let me say it again, bad video and incorrect size for iPOD version of crankygeeks 49.
I putting this message here since it seems that nobody read the comments from crankygeeks.

Robert, as a previous poster mentioned, the 9/11 hijackers flew out of Boston, and, for those of you not familiar with the city, less than one mile from where the first sign was found. While a number of these were later reported, the first one was reported by a Transit Authority employee. These folks are constantly told to be vigilant and we thank them for that.

This stunt would not have been a problem if Turner and their cowardly marketing firm Interference, Inc. had asked the city for permits and clued in the police as to what they were doing.

While other cities may not have reacted the same way, I for one, am glad that the local authorities did what they did.

The two jokers that were arrested for hanging the signs had some public sympathy until the video of them appearing in court ran. No words of contrition, just laughing and joking. Well, the rastafarian guy is now looking at deportation.

It's no joking matter and the citizens of this area are, for the most part, quite pleased the authorities did their job.

Great Show as always!
The 911/Sign stunt would be better avoided in the future by using the system (inform/buy) city rights cause in our scary world now anything even this can now be reused to pull off a Hoard Stunt.

Patrick? A few shows ago you told Robert we can get into that next week!

Subject Free Fire Wall -- I have been using and recommending ZoneAlarms Free basic/version now for over 10yrs (ease of use not to technical for the average user and you see what its doing where most of the others do thier own thing and you have no clue that anything is happening).
NOT PRO (to technical) NOT SUIT (out of control AI) --- but Basic

Guys,

You are in the correct education league. I, and others like me, left the degree chase and went to work in IT because the work in college was out of date. And that was 25 years ago!

Finish your degree if you can, but most of us folks holding things together out here are learning as needed.

Good show!

Grahammy Awards frontrunner:
Robert Heron "Its a bomb" "whats in the water back there" "its a boad, with some LEDs on it, and a battery" "its a slow news day" "batteries! Scary!" "too much CSI" " a paper bag is a threatening object".

In close second place:
Robert Heron regarding Nowich substitute teacher pron mouse trap: "If that is the worst thing that happens to those kids..."

No third place candidate has yet been identified.

psst. Turner DID tell the city that it was all a marketing ploy, just like they did in 12 OTHER CITIES. Not Turner's fault that the folks in Boston are uptight about litebrites.
