STUFF
• The best video card around $100 to $150? Josh, we've got an answer for ya... for benchmarking details, check out Lower Price, Faster Speed--GeForce 7900 GS and Radeon X1900 XT 256MB
• Rob's got a couple more tips for using IE Tab (It's all about the click options!)... and he shows off Colorful Tabs
• Our viewer pic of the week comes form JammerB... he's documented a friend that's an "Extreme Audiophile." This is one serious stereo setup... think electron microscope stabilizers meet enough copper shielding . Cool!
• Patrick demos Firefox 2.0's Session Restore features... which can load separate tabbed pages on loading, but not quite the way Morris wants them to!
• Mozilla's Mike Shaver is back, this time he's all over the future of the Mozilla web browser.
• A game that begs to be bought? Robert's ready for Supreme Commander... Games for Windows Magazine's Sean Malloy dropped by to give him the deets on the latest release from Gas Powered Games.
• MP3 players that resume where you left that long podcast: Bob, it's a feature that 'most' MP3 players already have... at least if you press 'pause' before you shut 'em down!
• "What's the timeframe between something being shown at CES and a realistic ship date?" Good question, Wayne.
•  Oh... we also showed off a festival of the "weird little wipes the Tricaster does" for Mike. The Blowing Leaves... the Angel Fish... The Wiper Wipe... Walking Away, and, ouch... many more.

I no longer use those fluorescent bulbs. I had name brand bulbs that didn't last a year and would start to flicker. Once they started to flicker the white base would get super hot and turn brown. I could smell the burning and even burnt my hand on the white base while trying to take the bulb out of the socket.

The UFO wipe was the best because I always holler "space him" during sci-fi shows! With that wipe, I could space 'em all, lol! ;-)

am i the only one who is bothered by the background used on the set? It really hurts my eyes! The alternating light and dark vertical stripes cause optical ringing... love the show otherwise : )

Episode 142: full of cool camera transitions that should be used more often... Also, is it just me or do they need a ticker at the bottom of the screen with tech news and local Bay Area weather?!

Its just you.. =) Those transitions are not even close too the silly ones on the videonics, 500+ USELESS transitions.

I checked into disposal of CFL's. I found a site that accepts your postal code and directs you to disposal sites.

http://www.earth911.org/

It works for me here in Ontario. I entered a San Francisco zip code and it also worked. There is info for battery disposal avaiable also.

I love Supreme Commander. Great review, I am glad someone else loves RTS games.

The video card segment is good. I haven't upgraded my computer in so long I have no clue what is a good card. But I am going to need it for Supreme Commander.

:)

I am transitioning from fluorescent bulbs to LED light bulbs. I got mine online from San Carlos ... LED Wholesalers. They are expensive and not as bright, last longer, and may not have mercury. Perhaps Mercury is better than Uranus (LOL).

Just remember the warning that the bulbs don't work at temperatures under freezing. I hope our green movement remembers that. LED's now has cold weather promise of savings.

I don't think you properly answered the viewer question regarding the loading of multiple pages on Firefox startup. It sounds like he wants the same default set of pages to load every time, rather than restoring the previous state of open tabs.

That functionality is another standard (albeit hidden) feature of Firefox. Leave it set to "show my home page"... then, just enter multiple URLs separated by "|" characters... pipes, bars, vertical lines... whatever you want to call them.

Example: firsturl|secondurl|thirdurl

Ironically, CFLs present an opportunity to prevent mercury from entering our air, where it most affects our health. The highest source of mercury in our air comes from burning fossil fuels such as coal, the most common fuel used in the U.S. to produce electricity. A CFL uses 75% less energy than an incandescent light bulb and lasts at least 6 times longer. A power plant will emit 10mg of mercury to produce the electricity to run an incandescent bulb compared to only 2.4mg of mercury to run a CFL for the same time.
