• Grindhouse. It's an excellent movie. If you're a fan of 70's era exploitation, B-grade scifi/horror, and car flicks you'll definitely get a kick out this double bill feature. Warning do not buy drinks for the movie it lasts over 3hrs with no real break in between.
• Antec's Solo. The new case I bought over the weekend to accommodate my quest for a quiet PC. The same model as the P150 the Solo is black instead of white and does not include a power supply. A great choice for anyone interested in building a new yet quiet PC.
• • Intel releases more details about Penryn Intel's upcoming 45nm processor based on the Core 2 Duo architecture was given more light as Intel brief media on the supposed performance increase Penryn will offer over current technology processors.
• Folding@Home: DL.TV is moving up the
Folding@Home rankings to number 366, maybe even higher as this is published. Thanks guys!!
• Wii Browser Update: There's a new update to the Opera Browser for the Wii that unbreaks the flash playback so you can finally catch DL.TV on the big screen again!
• HDTV for gaming: Brian wanted to know what HDTV technology was best for gaming. He specifically mentioned two things, ghosting and latency. The ghosting should no longer be an issue with today's HDTVs but plasma offers the best speed while LCD offers simple and roboust panel. As for latency that's a function of processing done by the TV which could add as much as a second from the time you move the controller to something happening on the screen. Most newer HDTVs should offer some sort of game mode that turns off most but not all the processing. • Web 2.0 is just a marketing term right? Well Roger found out that its that and a whole lot more. Like a whole lot more marketing, corporatese and weird discussions about poker buddies and who went to who's party. And of course the best way to steer more users to your site so their forward thinking profit model can take effect. Snarky... Who me?
• 911 on cellphones: Greg wrote in saying how 911 on cellphones allow 911 operators to triangulate a callers position just in case they happen to hang up or the phone goes dead giving rescuers valuable information during an emergency.
• Large PC Displays: Ben from Sydney wanted to know why his 32" HDTV doesn't reproduce the same amount of fidelity as a Apple 30" Cinema Display. The short of it is that the Cinema Display has a higher resolution compared to an HDTV. 2560-by-1600 pixels for the Cinema Display and 1366x768 for the HDTV. See the pixel density is greater. The flip side is you'll need a dual-link DVI video card to run it.
• Linux on a Laptop: Kent wanted to know how to make the best of his old laptop as his new one is the shop for repairs. Wanted a snappy stable OS to run a web browser and word processing. Our suggestion, Linux, and to help him out we also suggested
Linux on Laptops for help on how to install a variety of Linux distros. Also told him to checkout the Linux version of
Firefox and
Open Officefor his word processing needs.
