Welcome to DL.TV Episode 166!

Thanks to everybody that checked out our live stream on Ustream.tv... email us and let us know what the quality was like at your end.

The Deets

Google Searchology: Universal Search, Google Experimental and Interface Enhancements to the biggest search engine on the web. Jim Louderback spent the day with Google and has the deets!

The Radeon 9800 Pro 256 in Jonas' 3 year old system isn't cutting it anymore. He's wondering if it's even worth my time looking for a better AGP 8x video card. You've got a tough decision to make, Jonas, but there are lots of AGP cards for now... just none with DX10 support.

The Real Purpose Of The Mouse Jiggler: it's all about computer forensics at crime scenes.

In case we didn't make it clear: formatting a drive is not a very good way to wipe it. Another computer forenensic expert wrote in about that.

TubeTV: a little something for getting your favorite YouTube and Google videos onto your OS X desktop.

Is there a special 'server quality' drive I should be using when I upgrade the drives in my office server, or should I just grab something off the shelf from Western Digital or Seagate? We've got some HD info for Daniel.

"I like the show its self but two host is annoying. I would enjoy the show a lot more if they were changed." We're on it, Ryuho.

Hi guys, First, I hope the snaffoo between Limelight and the internet, gets worked on bigtime to make sure it does not happen again.
Second, for me in Pearl City, Hawaii, the experince was a little lower that my usual UstreamTV watching. Both Video & Audio froze and unfroze at about every 8-12 seconds. When the amount of people watching creeped up to 150, the freezing and unfreezing got worse, but, got better(?) as the number of people dropped down to around 120.
All in all, it was about average for UstreamTV for me, but I'm in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Maybe, for viewers in United States, their experience was better than mine.
Thanks for show, looking forward to download the file tonight or tomorrow, and will continue watch the shows in the future. Great Job, and Keep Up the high quality of the content and the guests.:)

re: Two host's or one. Two works fine for me. I think Pat and Robert have mellowed and work fine together. They also seem to keep each other "on message".

I think the hosts are fine and suited just right for the show. Too bad they can't bring in LEO LAPORTE for a THIRD host, now THAT would be great. I've been watching Patrick on Screen savers with TechTv when it still WAS TechTv. Rober Herron is quirky, but definitely a valuable addition in video and pc's. He stays!

Don't change guys, no need, carry on with the show!

Good job Pat with the flash drive. HAHA!

Dont change the show one bit. It works great the way it is with two hosts. Plus it was fun watching it today on Ustream and getting to see what goes on during the breaks.

i like it the way it is. Having segments and the occasional guest host when someone's busy is just the right mix of character and opinion for me.

I hear Ryuho doesn't like having two hosts. Well I for one embrace our funny named overlord.

On that note, I nominate myself for the position as the official replacement for the best two guys in tech. In fact, since I work so cheap (just give me a room to live in, some food, and some caffeine) we can even hire Ryuho to fill in for me during the commercial spots since none of the advertisers will renew.

But seriously, I've always wanted to be on a "successful" show.

Nevar! Robert and Pat work wonderfully together; half the entertainment of the show is watching them crack jokes at each other. Keep up the great show!

re: one or two hosts for the show.

Changing hosts would NOT make dl.tv a better show. Please leave Robert and Patrick in place. I wish I had a suggestion as to how to make it a better show but as far as I'm concerned, it's great as is.

It'd be cool if they could use the same host for the live feed that they use for the hosted files.. i get ~4000kb/Sec(over 30mbit) when i d/l the episodes.

What is "Ryuho" smoking?
Maybe he should look at what happened to the ScreenSavers show when G4 got there hands on it and changed the hosts. A few month later and no more ScreenSavers! We got that AOTS show and most all of the ScreenSavers fans stopped watching the show. Please do not mess with this show as most of us like it just the way it is.

Check out: Computer Power User June 2007

The article, "Homebrew Laptop" has quite a read on doing it yourself.

Good show guys. I'm also interested in building/upgrading my own pc right now, so keep those types of shows comin'. --great work on the folding@home stats!
No need to change the hosts. Somebody must have been smoking a little too much.

Two hosts are definately better than one. I think it helps broaden the coverage on what they discuss. Might as well just read the articles if you prefer to have a single input. Their discussions also bring up many questions in new areas that can be expanded in later shows. Mostly, it's just more entertaining with at least two people.

Don't even think of losing either Patrick or Robert-- the two are perfect together and have great chemistry together! I think the show would lose a lot with only a single host, and I'd miss one of you desperately!

re: two hosts or one.

I'm glad you guys laughed this one off. Robert and Patrick are like a wonderful, old, married couple. A perfectly matched duo of all things technical, for sure.

Having two hosts is not annoying at all. Ryuho, on the other hand, IS annoying. Maybe Ryuho can apply for that dumpster diving internship and slowly work his way up to host. I'll even pitch in the money for some nice gloves.

When you have a good thing going. LEAVE IT ALONE!!!
You guys not only feed off of each other. You cmpliment each other as well. Don't change a thing the show is great!!!

Two hosts FO LIFE.

Seriously, think about all of those podcasts with one host - Rocketboom, even CommandN to some extent. They have to be short and sweet because frankly, it's no fun listening to one person drone on for too long, even if the topic is entertaining or interesting. The fact that Robert and Patrick play off of each other and interact with one another, and that they share their opinions and exchange stories and chances to speak brings the show a kind of life that it wouldn't have if it were a one person deal, and makes it informal and entertaining like it wouldn't be if it were a huge panel full of people. The format is great the way it is guys, keep it up!

It's odd that after this many successful shows, someone would be asking for a change in the number of hosts. The show is great with Robert and Patrick and they make each show different from the last so that it isn't boring. Seems to me, it's working fine the way it is now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

2 hosts 2 much 4 some?

Hell no! I mean, they're no "Kate & Leo", but they're damn good. Long live The ScreenSavers!! and all of their derivatives/descendants.

Dude,
You insane. Replace this Ryuho cat. What planet is it from. I do not get any repsonses to my questions but I can not think of anyone who would do a better job that you two.

There is nothing wrong with the formula. Just never, ever, add another table that hides you guys again.

I will say though it is always great to have LEO LAPORTE on. I wished once you could get Megan Morone on although, I know she is super busy with her children.

She is great and an asset anywhere.

Hey Ryuho, How can you like the show and not the hosts? It's a talk show, and they are the ones who talk. Weird huh? Keep up the good work guys!!!

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MINDS !!!!! Why is it when you get something that works good, someone comes along & has to fudge it up with the bright idea of breaking it up ??? Give me a break & leave Patrick & Robert alone on the show. Think, think, think ........

yeah, stick with two hosts. It works great! I watch this just as much as I did the old zdtv and techtv shows :>

Robert and Patrick are doing a Great job! Let them keep on entertaining and informing! I don't know what hellish alternate reality "Ryuho" inhabits, but I shure don't want to see an example of it on my favorite Tech Vidcast.

Ryuho is probably some G4TV dweeb who knows that this show rocks and they are the sooooo lame channel.

Don't you dare change Pat or Robert! (I wouldn't mind seeing Leo or any of the other ex-TechTV hosts on as a guest host when you vacation.)

Great show, great hosts. Why would you want to change? It aint broke so lets not try to fix this one.

May 19, 2007 11:10 AM

2 hosts are better than one.

You can never have enough hosts. How about a host overload: Patrick and Robert, joined by Leo, Kat K-Rose, Alex, and even Martin!! on Skype. Maybe even Wil Wheaton and Yoshi to boot. Lets go retro!!!

May 19, 2007 2:09 PM

I like the robert and patrick team up. The show is quite hilarious at times.

CommandN w/ one host was fine, amber mc hosting alone was great.

but of course a good show must have two or more host so that some topics can be discuss openly.

May 20, 2007 2:46 PM

Don't even consider changing hosts. Patrick and Robert rock, and the only change I would consider would be as some have said adding Leo Laporte as a 3rd host. Keep up the good work guys!

Posted by: Adam M.
May 20, 2007 5:01 PM

Bah! Robert and Patrick are fine!

They are nice nerdy folks just like you and me - if you put some "slick" TV personality in their place I'd stop watching.

If I could make any suggestion, it would probably be: more interviews! (regardless of whether they are done in person or not).

The show is good though, thanks for making DL.TV :)

Bringing Leo Laporte as a third host wouldn`t work. Don`t you clowns remember during the screen savers show how Leo would dominate the program?,POOR Patrick would be lucky to get a comment or two spoken before Leo would take center stage again. How bout Natali Del Conte as the 3rd. host? Works for me!
