STUFF
• Yup, CTRL + V is paste, not CTRL + X. Thanks for the reminder, Patrick!
• 'Microsoft Surface': The Coffee-Table PC formerly known code named 'Milan' offers a pretty nifty looking way to work with photos, videos... and who knows what all else. Multiple folks can work with the 30 inch tabletop display at once, and it really is a big step beyond the touchscreen. Expect it to start showing up at the mall later this year.
• We mentioned a similar project, Jeff Han's 'multi-touch sensing' at Perceptive Pixel. Han demoed the system publicly for the first time at the 2006 TED conference. Thanks to Robert for the link to that. (Like the whole surface computing concept? Check out Merrick's desk in The Island, you'll just have to wade thru a bit of Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson footage to see it!)
• Viewer Tech Pic of the Week: Check out the computer cluster Phil built while he was working on his master's degree at MIT! Phil says to thank his sponsors at the FAA: his project is done, now the cluster chews on Folding@Home work!
• Want to see your tech picture on DL.TV? Email dl.tv@ziffdavis.com with "Tech Pic" in the subject line!
• Dust free PC case? Robert's current fave, Jerod, is the Coolermaster Centurion 5, thanks to the foam filter behind the faceplate. The low street price doesn't hurt.
• Need a jeweler's/precision screwdriver for those tiny screws that hold together your electronics? Tough to beat Home Depot's Husky 8-in-1 Precision Screwdriver for $6. (They offer a Torx version, too..)
• Yes, Patrick gutted his MacBook so he could repair the dented corner and make the big shiny white Apple logo in the top lid go away. We'll be talking about painting notebooks on next Tuesday's show.
• $20 wireless Ethernet bridge? Logitech's Play Link offers modest speed (1.5Mbps) and stone simple installation that connects any pair of Ethernet ports in your home. Why so cheap? Logitech doesn't make 'em any more.
• More Free 1080p Content online? Not all of it is 1080p, but if you're looking for online video, we've got some ideas for you on the show.
• Speaking of ideas, quite a few people wrote in with ideas to help Dean get faster transfer speeds between his server and notebook. We covered a few on the show.
NEWS
• Spam King Arrested, Robert wonders why taxpayer dollars are spent going after bulk emailers.
• DRM Free iTunes Plus: $1.29 a song for DRM free 256kbps tracks. Currently it includes EMI's catalog, along with selections from Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, John Coltrane, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra and over a dozen Paul McCartney albums. (What? No Black Flag?) Apple expects "more than half of the songs on iTunes will be offered in iTunes Plus versions by the end of this year."
MORE STUFF
• Tuesday, June 5th: Painting your notebook, and making that plastic logo on the lid go away. Drobo: it's not a NAS, it's a 'storage robot.' Your help for the gent thinking about getting an MCSE certification.

Great show, guys! You covered a lot of topics today. Looks like Robert won't be out a hundred bucks come Monday, lol! I would not have taken that bet either! Everybody have a great weekend!

Robert was kindof wrong, there is a version of Folding@Home for Dual Core, the Console version 5.04. Althought it is kindof for single cores when you read the instructions it is what they suggest using for Dual Core CPU's.... So he was kindof right and kindof wrong when he said there is not version for dual cores just run on a single core.... Who knows I could even be wrong... at least I hope I am not.... Great Show...

Great show and thank you Robert for the case recommendation.

I can not wait to see if Pat was able to reassemble his Laptop. May the Tech Gods be with you.

How could the DL.TV crew forget a CLASSIC! For shame...

Robert, the black cases used in the cluster are the Antec Sonata II - a tower among Antec's Life Style series cases. They are a great case and make for a nice looking rig; however, the stock Antec 120mm case fan is no gem. It will fail after a few months - I've built using this case for a long time and have replaced hundreds of failed fans. We took to dumping the stock case fans and installing the best 120mm fans we could find for the systems we build.

The movie Robert was talking about is No Escape.

Wow, it seems that multi-touch is really the way to go in the future...

Couple thoughts:

1.) Perhaps a mixup of terms is to blame. 5 MB/s ~= 40 Mbps.

2.) Regarding the water and the computer, get a LeakFrog! (Google it)

Hi, guys!

Hmmm...I was a little shocked at Patrick's anti-Apple logo stance when he mentioned he was planning to eliminate the back-lit logo from it during his repairs. I know he's Windows-centric, but but please show us Mac users in the audience some love!

Why not do something cool to the logo like change the color or some other interesting mod?

Anyway, for someone who says they want to eliminate the logo so as not to give Apple any more free advertizing, I would also expect Patrick to also put black tape over the logos on his sneakers, or run out to the parking lot and start popping off the corporate insignias off his truck. (grin) If you're gonna go SanFran anti-captitalist on us, go all the way and start fuzzing out the Windows logos and product insignias on the show too! (wink)

Had to laugh about the keyboard command correction, made me think about the times when my fingers know a key command or password(muscle memory?), but when I try to write them down my brain sometimes can't recall it.

I have that Coolermaster Centurion 5 Robert recommended and it works very well. Got it 2 years ago and when I recently upgraded my motherboard I was pleasantly surprised that it's virtually dust-free within! :)

Great show as always. I like the idea of a table being a touch enabled device. The only worries I have is what would happen if I were to spill liquid on the surface? I would be too afraid to put any kind of drink on it. That and I would also be afraid to put anything down on it like my cellphone or any other device that it can sync with if someone had one of these at their house. I'm sure someone will figure out how to hack one of these and be able to pull everything off of the devices and also inject malicious files as well. This device would be awesome to play any type of RTS game on.

Tongue in Cheek Mode On
For taking the trouble to remove the Apple logo off of his MacBook, I suspect Patrick is an Apple Bigot, but if he then also removes the logos off of every other device that appears regularly on DLTV, my fears would be for nought. ;d
Good Show Guys - Thanks

I use the SMP client on my Core 2 Duo machine. The work units net you a lot more points than the standard clients.

You can pick up a refirbished Cooler Master Centurion 5 case on eBay. Search for seller CoolerPlanet.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like he has any items listed at the moment.

Fun programme as always ! What, by the way, was the application you were using to measure data transfer speeds ? Is it available for download and if so, could you provide a link ?...
