STUFF
• Recycling your old electronics: monitors, pcs, cd players, all that good stuff? Rich has 15 years worth of old gear to make go away. We've got the info for you.
• Rich also directed us to one pimped out laptop. If you're into Sanrio's popular 2D feline mascot then this laptop is a must have.
• Viewer Pic 'O the Week. How many PCs is too many? Judging by David's dorm room not less than 15 we suppose.
• Remember Daniel's ransacked BMW? Car insurance generally doesn't cover gear that's stolen from your car... homeowners or renters insurance should. Just work out how to prove you owned it -before- anything gets stolen!
• "Is it safe to rest a plasma HDTV on it's side?" It's not a good idea, Chris, but not for the reason your were told.
• "Is there a better plasma TV than Pioneer's Elite Pro-1540HD for 6k?" No, Bill, but Rob says you might want to wait for a month: new models are on the way from Pioneer!
• HDMI premium cables follow up. Worthwhile purchase or just slick marketing? The answer may surprise you... or maybe not. In any case it seems Gizmodo agrees with Rob's assessment. Funny that. ;-)
• You can use your cell phone as a modem, Chris... it's called DUN: dial up networking. www.howardforums.com is a huge help!
• Oops! We forgot something...Here is the link where Patrick is walking across the street in SF close to the studio from Google Maps Street View.

Speaking of HDTV have you ever hear of or better yet seen a UHDTV (Ultra High Definition Television) "Sounds" great only downside is...
1)requires allot f harddrive space (hundreds of TB drives)
2) fiber is a must
3)next to no content

I thought I saw a Mac under your desk there a few weeks back, and I am pretty sure I saw OSX on the big screen behind you. This week I saw two generic P.C.s and Vista on the big screen. Do you guys just switch out every once and a while, or was there some issue with the Mac? Just curious.

Also would like Robert's opinion on building a home theater PC that can record up to three programs at once if needed, and can display on a 32" Sharp Aquos LC-32D40U. Would onboard video with an HDMI adapter be sufficient, do I need a discreet card with HDMI, or will s-video suffice? Any Linux solutions? I am on a budget, and I just like Linux better.

I have a niece that would LOVE that Hello Kitty laptop :-)

Just a minor correction - Patrick, no one would _ever_ hear any difference between FLAC and Apple Lossless because they are both lossless codecs. The difference in their performance is measured in how well they compress, and (less importantly) how long it takes to do the compression.

Best regards, and thanks for DL.TV :-)

Hi all,

I am probably in the minority, but I figured I would ask... I think it would be cool if we could see the dl.tv set during the closing credits... You know how newscasts move a camera back and you can see the floor director talking with the anchors... I think it would be great if dl.tv could do the same type of thing... we might be able to see some of the other people behind the camera (instead of cutting to the black credit roll at the end).
