What's new in Episode 186
STUFF
• Roger Chang's at Comic-Con San Diego, taking pictures and hanging out with the sci fi glitterati.
• So we asked really really nicely and 1Up's Managing Mavin Garnett Lee came by to co-host the show...
• Kind of generous of him, given that 1Up was one of the sites that got knocked out this week when 365 Main lost power... It's all about having multiple colos... and, uh, generators.)
• Viewer Pic o' the Week? DL.TV in a firetruck... Curt, a firefighter from Asheville, NC says "I have to get my DL.TV on even when I have to watch it in the fire truck! I might be the first guy with an "iFire engine." Thanks for the pix, Curt, and thanks for sending a Gigasize link instead of a 27MB email attachment!
• CCleaner is definitely a great way to clear your tracks from your browsers, OS and other applications (not to mention clear out tons of wasted space on your hard drive)... thanks for a great addition to ep 185's how to on clearing the recent items list in Vista, Eliminat!
• Garnett demoed some nifty online applications: first, RememberTheMilk.com is the "ONLINE TODO LIST AND TASK MANAGEMENT" site he says has the whole Franklin-Covey lifestyle beat...
• ... but remember, he wants you to take advantage of the nifty RememberTheMilk interface built into his
Netvibes.com, which you'll just have to watch the video to see... Garnett says it's heaps better than iGoogle, the Google custom home page, or Live.com's personalized home page. Check out the video: he's got Netvibes pretty tricked out.
• Pownce Deux: speaking of tricked out, we forgot to show sharing files on Pownce, so we showed that off today.
• HowardForums.com is that cell phone web forum that is always mentioned on the show, Adam... it's an amazing resource for just about any cell phone or wireless carrier, whether you're looking for advice on dealing with AT&T or Verizon... help with DUN over your cell phone, or some nifty tools to make your phone your own. It's awesome... and follow Garnett's advice if you don't want to get flamed when you start posting.
• Should you buy Vista on your new machine, Philip? Sure. We wouldn't upgrade to it, tho, and we're not taking any bets on its efficiency compared to XP, tho there are some great features built in for parents and folks that love the shiny.
• Jim's read for the September release of Halo 3... and he's gonna buy a plasma TV so he can really get into it... should he go with a plasma or LCD screen? Garnett is all about the plasma when you're talking about serious HD gaming.

Good show!!!! almost a perfect mix of everything. I just hope that next Tuesdays show doesn't become a big audio THX HDTV half hour bore fest! And yes I agree, we lost The Screensavers to video games, SO PLEASE don't let it happen again!!!! but it is always nice to have reviews and the such, but don't focus.... Excellent show guys!! and yes Garnett was very active which helps the show move and keeps the attention growing.

No, we lost The Screensavers to idiots, and the idiots said, "PC games, video games, computers... they're all the same thing, right?". Wow! ain't that comtastic! (from whence comes the wonderful "Comcastic".)
Every show has its own focus (usually). I don't play PC games, but I see them as just another application, one that needs way more horsepower. I think the intense growth of PC h/w power has been more the result of gaming than anything else, so thank you very much to all gamers everywhere... more power to ya! But, gamers are very much a minority of users, so it'll never pay to forget about everyone else using PC's, Mac's, or whatever. If DL.tv, for example, were to make shows consistently heavy with games, then that would mean they're stupid... and they ain't stupid (well, not usually :D).
Best focus: freeware!

Garnett was great. Passionate, opinionated and can really explain things well. Garnett's explanation of plasma vs. LCD for gaming was informative and well thought out. Invite him more often to co-host.

Ding, ding, ding.
We have a winner.
The number one relief pitcher should Robert or Patrick be ever absent again has to be Garnett. Sure, we all love games so its an easy topic but he has a good wit and knows how to move things along.
I liked this show so much I actually went back a few times to rehear.
And I dont think the studio is fabulously big enough to have Garnnet AND Robert co-host together, but that should be fun.
Numero uno.

I've watched several interviews done by Garnett, on Hellgate: London. He's pretty good at explaining things and asking good questions to the people he's interviewing. I wouldn't mind seeing him on dl.tv more often!

Garnett was a great co-host, does he have a gaming podcast? He definitely belongs in front of the pod-cameras. One of my fav episodes in a while.

CCleaner.com was excellent! More weekly reviews of FREE software is essential these days and thanks for reviewing it on Windows Vista.

Excellent show! Lee has been the most informative host, let alone co-host.
Also, CCleaner, a great product, has overwrite functionality. It gives the choice, in one of the "options" menus, to overwrite, three or eight times, the deleted data.
Long-time viewer,

Great to see you still on tv (equivalent) Patrick. Ever since the stoner programming of G4 took over I missed the screen savers. I love watching DL.tv especially hosted by THE patrick norton, it reminds me of good old times. Please don't move more into games in the future, a few quick game reviews is fine though. The game oriented shows remind me of G4 TV which is for 13 year old fan boys.
Great Job, Looking forward for future shows!
Long live Patrick Norton and his career in Media!
PS.
I also watch The lab with Leo Laporte, you should do a show that gets Kevin Rose, Leo, and yourself back together that would be great.

If you guys liked Garnett Lee, you should check him out every Friday on his 1UP podcast, just hit the show notes and go to podcasts. Pretty lively discussion on video games and gaming current events.
It was great to see Garnett on the show, he even put in a plug for dl.tv last friday.
I started listening to 1UP because of their ads on dl.tv!
