XP Tip:
Windows XP is full of helpful applications, but some of them take too much control or have other downsides. MSN Explorer, the Outlook Express e-mail client, and even the Internet Explorer browser may all be mere baggage to you. All of these can be removed, saving you as much as 20MB of drive space in the process.

XP Tip
• Want to get rid of the XP components you are not using? MSN Explorer, the Outlook Express e-mail client, and even the Internet Explorer browser may all be mere baggage to you. All of these can be removed, saving you as much as 20MB of drive space in the process.

You can remove MSN Explorer, and save space.
Unchecking Outlook Express and Internet Explorer just removes shortcuts. If you really want to strip out IE try nLite.

Just remember that (unfortunately) many common apps and software malfunction or break entirely if you remove IE.

a safer method is to lock down and hide IE.

Old tip from previous show. What's the dealio?
Also as long as you only remove IE's frontend and leave the core alone you should be safe.

I dont know why anyone would ever want to take out Internet Explorer 6. I tell you if god forbid I get a Vista machine, I will do everything in my power, and beyond, to get IE6 on it. Then again I will never leave XP.

Since a lot of apps specifically use IE, instead of your default Internet Browser, I find it better to leave it alone. I removed MSN and Outlook Express long ago anyways.

MSN Exporer can burn in a fire, but just internet explorer you need in most cases if you need patches.Theres also the pain that some websites run in IE better than fire fox but like 1up.com you need Firefox to enjoy it(explorer just won't play it for me).
If your really passing out over 20 Mb, search though what you don't need or can move off to an external drive or compress them. I had about 9 gigs of multimedia files and moved them off the computer. Now that will save you space ;)

A quick point, on most systems 20mb is nothing. If your a FLAC user you could be using ~30mb for a 3 minute song. Better to keep the IE and lose 20mb than risk not being able to use a program.

Uninstalling IE isn't wise... AFAIK Windows Update will not accept any other browser. If you like updates, don't remove it =\

20 mb. Oh please! I bet the average user on this thread has at lease a 100 GB drive. That would be 5000 times greater than 20 mb.
