Here's a real tip on how to speed up boot times.
Microsoft BootVis.
It redefines the order that files and drivers are loaded into your computer to reduce delays. It redefines the Layout.ini file in your Prefetch directory which Windows XP periodically uses to optimize boot times.
Popular Defrag Software such as O&O Defrag and PerfectDisk also have options to utilize the Layout.ini file when they defrag.
It can cut bootup times buy over 30% without killing any startup apps.

@Lardzor: no, Windows XP already does this, as well as Vista, hence the reason bootvis is no longer active. Dont ever fool with the layout.ini, you will most likely render your computer unbootable.
If you really want to speed things up, use all the system utilities that MS offers to smooth things out, you will see a big difference, I really dont recommend any 3rd party software.
