What's new in Episode 195
STUFF
• Robert is back from his trip to CEDIA with a full report including pics. From giant blue bears to a new HD disc format it's all sorts of craziness as Robert spills the beans on this year's event.
• Photoshop wizard, Alex Lindsay, is back. This time he's here to show us the right way to make black and white photos from colored ones. It might seem simple but with a few extra settings and tools you can make a black and white photo that is truly a work of art.
• Sound and video are crucial components in any DIY PC. So, let the wisdom of Loyd Case guide you as he continues with his "Build a PC" series with his guide to picking the right video and sound cards
• Sam Kennedy from 1UP.com stops by to cover the 3 RPGs you'll want to try, buy or simply pass on buy. If you're a RPG nut you owe to yourself to watch what Sam has to say.
• Aner wanted an update to our Folding@Home efforts. Happily the DL.TV Folding@Home efforts have been paying off as team DL.TV moves up in the ranks.

Great what?! I just dropped in at 1:00 PM MDT and 195 was none existant. Episode 109 may have been great except my viewer would not acquire the live feed for some reason. I got to watch part of 194 while I opened and tweaked the software as I tried to find the settings so I could watch the live feed. I will view 109 later when it is available this evening.

I dont mind the games Eval, but I was thinking this was more oriented to the PC...considering that Sony and MS are trying to claim the game distribution and control, there ISNT much being really released to PC.

The big blue bear outside of the Denver convention center is called "I See What You Mean" and is a piece of public art designed by local sculptor, Lawrence Argent. It was erected in the summer of 2005 and is made of panels of polymer concrete hung on a steel frame.

Hey enough with the Roger Haters already.
Roger is doing a great job and he is funny.
It does seem like the show could use more
TECH. Example the new HD video format that
was mentioned using "red laser" did not
mention the audio supported by that new
format???? I'm assuming it isn't the
new Dolby and DTS HD formats? While the
pictures of the show were great it would
have been nice to have more in depth
words to go with them.
I'd also axe the game segments since this
isn't G4..... You might also consider
doing guest spots every so often as short
stories or to fill in when Robert or Roger
are out of the office. What about Morgan
Webb, Natilie Del Conte, Veronica, Cali Lewis,
Leo Laporte, or even viewer videos on select
topics, interests, or events? What about you
guys visiting other podcasters and showing us
how they put their shows together? You could
start at the Tiki Bar. Even if you did these
segements with Skype or pre-recorded it would
still be interesting.

Umm...why was the 2900xt billed as a midrange card in the building a PC segment again? If I check the Fururemark hall of fame I see 2900XT crossfire rigs taking the top 4 spots on 3dmark05 and 2-4 on 3dmark06. The other slots were taken by the 8800 ultra sli rigs. It would seem that the 2900XT is head to head with the 8800 ultra, not down between the 8600 and the 8800 gts.
I know there's a lot of fanboy-ism when it comes to hardware, but how about at least pretending to be non-biased in presenting it to the community in learning segments?

Am I the only one who gets tired of the nonstop HDTV coverage? I realize it's Robert's passion, but, really, there's more to the tech world than television. Strangely, unlike many above, I actually am enjoying the games coverage, though I'd like to see more PC-based games covered. How about doing a Linux-related show?

Im not a gamer by any stretch but I like the concept of try, buy or pass instead of 3 good ones.
Definitely have this in your rotation.
As well, Lloyd is the man. Im not one of those people who settles for what companies push in terms of hardware (Hey Apple!) and have always built my own so this is a must.
Roger is a little more bearable now, so that's a plus. But funny?
No. Let's just not go there please.
Walk. Then run.

I just watched the show and noticed Robert mentioned he changed from a 7800GS to an 8800 video card. I believe the 7800GS is an AGP only card, and the 8800's are PCIe only. Nice try Robert, but only a few hybrid motherboards allow for both and I doubt you have one of those. You don't really even have a video card do you?... DO YOU !

Wasn't Robert talking about his upgrade is previous episodes anyway? Upgrading to a quad core, etc.

@Tommo: Good point. If Robert upgraded to quad-core then upgrading his motherboard is implied. In that case, migrating from AGP to PCIe makes perfect sense. I appologize to Robert for the rash accusation.

can anybody tell me if I keep the laptop I use to sync my iphone offline, and never update itunes on it, can I then unlock my iphone without fear that Apple could disable it later? Thanks.

Hey I love your show, more so the HD movie/Audio side of it. Please go into more details, as I love the details! I also love the Photoshop tip and tricks. I just wish I could have a step by step tutorial of them. Is there one? Anyone know where the link is, or do we have to go to pixel corp and sign up?
