STUFF
• This webcast is sponsored by Hitachi
• Veronica Belmont drops in for a surprise guest hosting session, and shares a few tips on securing privacy when using social networking sites.
• Robert shows off the latest release of Ubuntu OS.
Robert recommends to folks running ATI graphics hardware they're better off using the default video drivers, but Nvidia graphics users should install the restricted driver package for improved font rendering and if you wish to enable the enhanced desktop features - AKA "Wobbly Windows".
• Robert also gains deeper insight into what exactly Folding@Home is folding in an interview with Professor Pande.
• Loyd continues the building that crazy PC with a focus on testing the system before it's completed to ensure things are working like they should before the final peripherals are installed.
• Finally Lola had a question about replacement for iTunes that still sync's with an iPod. There's a huge selection of alternatives on the Windows side, but in my experience Songbird Mediaplayer with the iPod plug-in installed is the best free alternative especially in overall functionality. Another alternative is Floola. Although none of these solutions are as "robust" as iTunes they work relatively well and less crash prone than some other alternatives. Of course in both cases you'll still need to have iTunes installed in order to format or update the iPod.
• This is the final day for "HDTV Giveaway" entries. Get your entry in before 11:59pm Pacific tonight in order to qualify. For complete instructions check Episode 200's post. Good luck. The winner will be announced next week!

Quite a few interesting topics covered in this show, nice. I liked the Ubuntu segment as well. Regarding the Visual Effects feature, I had to install "compizconfig-settings-manager" so I could keep the window edges from sticking to the desktop edges with the "Wobbly Windows" feature. I noticed Robert was tugging on the sticky windows as well. ;)

Great show. But, how can you get Veronica's name so confused? Subtitles at 1:17 show her as 'Velmont Belmont' and then Roger forgets who she is by the end of the show!!! And she is such a great guest... better treat her better because we want her back on.
Ubuntu stuff was really useful, thanks Robert. I recently started using Ubunutu and did not know what the Synaptic App manager did. Please can we have more.

This was a good show, OMG do I love Veronica as a host, she should be permanent. Where is her video show already, was it not supposed to be out by now? She looked gorgeous in this episode too.
anyway
I think Roger and Veronica should be the main hosts of the show, and then Robert can do Ubuntu, Television and F@H segments.
The format of this particular show was great, everyone had a part/segment and they did it well, but most importantly they kept Veronica in as many parts of the show as possible, smart move.
I am still torn on who I liked better as a host, Veronica or Morgan, I would say they should host it together, but idk if they know each other, or have good or any chemistry at all together. It's funny that Roger almost forget Veronica's name b/c they know each other outside of the show. My guess is she only knows Robert from the show, and that's why their segments together are not as good, but oddly enough Robert works better with both Veronica and Morgan then he does with Roger, same can be said about Roger too.
I like Robert, but if I saw less of him I wouldn't cry, I will say this though, the guy has excellent, borderline amazing taste in shirts. I emailed the show saying that once, but I think they thought I was joking/being rude, I am definitely not I love 95% of the shirts he wears.
Hmm I have a lot to write, but I am reserving myself, I guess I will stop here.

damn there is 2 Eddie's on this forum, that's crazy
well I am the Eddie that just wrote that long post, and the other Eddie should be sorry (his words, not mine), calling Veronica hot is not cool, I admit I use the word all the time to describe women, but not when talking about respectable smart women.

I agree Roger is a little dry in his presentation, but he is still a cool guy. He should act more like he does on East Meets West, but there he is talking about stuff he really cares about, not a script written out for him, so maybe that is the problem, but there is a huge difference between him there and him on this show.

The show looks more balanced with the random female
guest hosts that have shown up.
Female geeks (gicks??) rock.
But its certainly improving again regardless.

Roger briefly mentioned a viewers question at the end of the show saying that "Yamipod" did not work for him.
Well in the interest of the viewer who did not try out the iTunes replacement software called, "Yamipod", she can find the freeware application at http://www.yamipod.com and it operates in Linux, Windows, and Mac OS.

Thanks for playing my video and answering my question! I (with the help of my application-savvy boyfriend) finally got Floola working. It looks like we needed to tweak some things in iTunes before Floola would work. I'm now in the middle of resubscribing to the 30+ podcasts I listen to. Not the most fun part, but it must be done--particularly before I go to work tomorrow.

I would cry if there were less Robert. We all benefit from Robert's ease on camera and his knowledge. His smile is rather infectious too, if I may add. No Robert must stay.
Roger is a great host I think. His personality seems to be coming out more and more with each show. He's witty and vastly intelligent. I think it's fun to watch the progress.
Veronica is totally amazing. She's beautiful, yet not conceited in the slightest. She's graceful and elegant on camera and she has a great presence about her that is eminently respectable! Even though she's two months younger than me, she has become my role model ^_^.
LOVED this episode.

Is Roger behind the camera again? Nope? Then I'm still not watching. Roger is a terrible host (very annoying). I'm not watching 'til you get Robert a co-host and not a replacment cameraman/producer stand in. Trying to get me to watch by bringing in Veronica Bellmont? Nope. Won't work. Still not watching. I think I'll waste my time watching a more professional podcast without a mush mouthed annoying bad host. Sorry, Rog. Love you but you are not cut out to be a host.

Geez, you guys are ruthless against Roger. While some of the content is a bit thin and not too orginized, I still enjoy DL.TV every Thursday (wish it was Tuesday as well). Keep on keeping on!

On a Mac Pro with OS X 10.4 the SMP client is loaded once and it runs on 4 engines and reports as one cpu to F@H
I hope it will be faster on 10.5 with 64 bit Unix
