• We have a viewer question from Mark:
• Blu-Ray has long touted its tough resistant hard coating but I've been wondering exactly how tough is it really how much of a pounding can it really take?
• Well, Mark, we ran into the HD Lab and put a Blu-Ray disc to the test.
• Folding@Home Update: We are holding steady at 13 at over 166,000,000 point. We figure out how to read numbers. Just a reminder, if you click on our Folding@Home link we have our interview with Prof. Vijay Pande and instructions on how to configure the Folding@Home client on your machine of choice.
• Finally, we have an interview with John Davison of What They Like, Inc. He stopped by the studio to talk about What They Play, a parental resource site help parents understand the ESRB ratings as well as inform of what type of content a video game contains.

You made BD test in haste, that is really suspicious.

Umm... why did a big gouge appear on the Blu-ray disc after the test which didn't come from the steel wool?
Looks like you did a bogus test, and you weren't even able to cover it up. Do you get paid to do this fake anti Blu-ray propaganda?

Ahhhhhhhhhhh
Excellent!!!! Now isn't it way better for the thirty minute show. Not rushed and it gives you time to enjoy the show. Although Veronica's outfit was a little racey!!!!!!!
More, More, More of that wouldn't be bad if Robert had only been on the show too.
Yes, of course I know he was but Veronica is way hot.
I mean as a professional host of course.

HollisJamison: according to Sony, they use a proprietary hard-coat technology called "Scratch Guard" - not TDK's Durabis.
Here is a link to a Sony site about the tech:
http://tinyurl.com/33ksot
As I showed, Sony's tech clearly isn't as tough as Durabis - I'm tempted to get some BD-R media from TDK and others to see how the toughness compares.

First- Durabis is the coating on Blu-ray discs as well. Second- at 16:46, why does the Blu-ray disc have a gouge on it, this seems clearly not made by steel wool, more likely by the boxcutter seen earlier or a screwdriver.
I am calling shenanigans on the test. The test was to tell us how scratch resistant it was, and the first test is to use sharpie and steel wool-- yeah that is something my discs encounter all the time. How about starting with skidding it across other discs or the floor first.

So I guess the result is Sony's Scratch Guard isn't better than TDK's Durabis technology.
why I heard it said is "DVD-R's coating is better than Blu-ray's coating" and actually it's because Blu-ray use different technology?
It's great now that people said "(All) Blu-ray protective coating sucks"
by the way, next time please don't use a dual-format player, few people bought and I heard it about too many compatibility issues before.

show content was good but the production of the show was alittle herky jerky....growing pains I'm sure. Keep pushing the show forward Robert!!

Hey, Robert! I saw that Alpha 4 for the next Ubuntu release is out: "Hardy Heron." Thought of you. :-)

- I wouldn't let my 12-year-old kid play Assassin's Creed... that game is incredibly violent.
- Mass Effect _does_ have nudity. I know it and I've never played it. :) But, yeah, the deal you're referring to was pretty ridiculous.
- I saw the Alpha 4 of the new Ubuntu distro is out: "Heady Heron". Made me think of you. And then I saw "heady" can mean "suffering from a headache"... I laughed. :)

Martin: good catch - it was a box cutter mark. It was probably edited out, but I did mention that particular mark on the disc. Otherwise, that demo was legit in that I did the exact same thing (marker/steel wool) to two different hard coated discs. Of course, an HD DVD or regular DVD wouldn't have survived/had a chance ;)
Re. Durabis/BD movies: apparently there are at least three forms of Durabis, and the hard coat used on TDK's DVD media is different than the coat used on BD movies. I'm going to contact Sony as well as some of the blank media manufacturers for more details.
Thanks and stay tuned!

Where can you find the CDs with Durabris, I can't find them anywhere. I'd love these in my car.

Our production in Folding at Home is falling. That 30th place is getting further and further away. We need more people to donate their processors!

I love sites like "What They Like"! As a parent it is nice to get the reasons for the ratings in detail. There is another great website like this but for movies. It can be found at http://www.kids-in-mind.com/
It has very detailed review from a parent's perspective.
