Well, if you live by an IKEA store, they will take the CFLs off your hands. Also, take a look at lamprecycle.org for more information on programs to recycle your CLFs.. Also, he has a quick word about recycling those old electronics. Check out Alameda County Computer Resource Center for info on how to have your old electronics repurposed. Check out Ep 147 for the full skinny on switching to CFLs and Ep 174 for all the info you need to properly recycle your old electronics.

Ok Robert Fess up what did you do.... hehe

PC-Rock: My hamster-powered ("green") video editing system isn't working as well as I thought it would. It appears the varmints are attempting some sort of riot and/or coup...time to consider the nuclear option! Thank you for your patience.

How mutch do you think adding 1 Fulltime PS3 to team 57391 would help out? i use my PC but it seems utterly slow even at 2.79GHz

I'm trying hard to stay with this show since all of the changes and I don't like to be negative but this is the single worst edited and worst produced episode of this show I've seen in years.

Wow Heron is the starchild never would've guessed.

This episode was excellent! A very creative way to showcase the intersection of technology and environmental conservation. Going out on location was a great idea.

OK I'll agree the editing may not have been the smoothest and some of the video was borderline cheesy BUT I liked their creativity. It would have been less interesting if they had been behind the desk merely to intro each segment. Well done!

I think this was a great idea to do a 'Green' episode. You covered good topics and technologies.

For your next one, could I suggest looking at technologies that eliminate power from being wasted by peripherals left on standby such as printers, AC adaptors for notebooks etc.? In the UK we have a company that produces such devices (www.oneclickpower.co.uk). I am sure you have equivalent devices in the US. Also, a discussion about LED vs CFL for lighting would be fantastic? Also, maybe you could discuss micro-generation from home (wind/solar)?

While I can agree to some point with the critics who comment about the editing, I think the creativity of this episode is so much better than the previous shows, that we should be able to look past a simple back-office production skill and encourage the innovative ideas.

Like this show with you guys being willing to try different things. Much more fun to watch despite some of the editing quirks. Keep pushing the envelope guys it keeps the show interesting and refreshing.

Thanks for the CFL vs incandecent reminders and I am glad that PC mag will include the green aspect in their reviews. I am not much into the green movement but I don't like to waste energy or anything else for that matter just because it is abundant so the green info on elctronics will be helpful when making purchase decisions.

I've watched this show from the first episode and I have to say this was the single most boring episode ever!

April 18, 2008 8:18 PM

I've been a loyal viewer (as have the friends I've recommended you to) for a very long time, but I have to agree, this was a very dull episode. Not only that, since Patrick and Roger left, the shows have been getting shorter and less interesting. Come on guys, you need a permanent second host again and get back to the way you were. My friends also watched this episode and feel the same.

I really enjoyed the show. I don't buy into man-made and/or constant global warming, but I'm all about trying to keep things efficient and limiting the pollution of the environment so this stuff was pretty interesting to me.

I liked this episode, not boring at all.

A better format for this espisode:

slice the segments up and use them as mini "green segments" spread over a week

Does anyone have suggestions for who the next full-time co-host should be?

Posted by: wow
April 20, 2008 6:37 AM

Robert, perhaps this show should just be retired. It is a shadow of its former self. Almost an embarrassment at this point. It didn't occur to me just how important Patrick was. I thought it was bad with Chang and you doing it. It's barely tolerable now. You were a great side kick Robert, but you can't stand on your own.

I would suggest joining everyone else at Revision3 or take a desk job. Just my suggestion, dl.tv is dead. I don't even bother watching anymore. Revision3 is where its at. Sorry to be harsh, but with all the podcasts out there, what used to be my favorite doesn't even register anymore. Your replacement? tekzilla.

DL.TV is most certainly not dead. Yes times are tough right now, but they'll pull through.

Posted by: Jim Connolly
April 20, 2008 12:25 PM

DLTV is always going to be worth watching so long as Robert Heron is in the chair!

I have been watching since around the 10th episode, and what has amazed me is just how great Robert has been without Patrick. Pat's really good, but Robert is one of the most naturally funny people in tech!

can you guys at dl.tv add a 'no whiners' label somewhere on the home page?

April 21, 2008 6:13 PM

I now see why this show was not live. This was your worst show.

Posted by: Mot
April 21, 2008 7:52 PM

I agree with Mike, this was the worst show imaginable. The misinformation was running rampant. I sure hate to see DL.TV jump on board with the Global Warming Hoax crowd. Hybrid cars and Mercury laced bulbs are not the answer. You guys at DL.TV need to do your homework. ARGHHHH.

April 22, 2008 7:10 AM

OMG, we still have a number of conspiracy theorists left in this world. I thought they had all died out, but sadly there are still members of the flat-earth society and those that believe that man did not land on the moon, so it is probably understandable that there are people who believe that global warming is a hoax.

I guess there will always be people who refuse to accept the obvious, just as some people still insist that the sun moves around the earth. Why should they let science-based evidence, logic and rational thought get in the way of a good story?

Stick to tech and leave this Eco crap alone.
It is soooooooooooo tiring listening to this
every part of life, light bulbs, plastic bags,
hybrid cars, turning off my computer to save energy.
Hey, how about letting the energy companies do their job and stop demanding this Earth Day crap that just raising the prices of everything. INCLUDING GAS!
Stupid San Fran liberal attitudes stuck in the stone age.

DL.TV is deleting the comments, I've noticed
people that are against the Earth Day event has had their comments deleted. Well, so much for having a true discussion on these forums. I am going to stop watching DL.TV if they are so hardboiled on challenging thier ideas. Too bad you didn't stick with "Technology" on your show. It was a waste a space to watch this show anyway.

Just cleaning the crap out of my life : )

Michael,
We do not have a problem with people who are against Earth Day. We are against people using profane language in the comments. That is the only reason that the comments were removed.

Scott

April 22, 2008 7:13 PM

Weeeell, I see my comments were deleted. I don't recall any profanity in my comments. There were no "F" words in my post, or any other crude lingo, just my opinion based upon cold hard facts, that most enviornmental folks just can't handle. It sure is interesting when it's discovered that not all of us believe in the religion of global warming, as in HOAX. This conspiracy theorist is now deleting DL.TV from his video podcast lineup.

Really didnt like that show. The stuff show was sort of interesting but it would have been better if it was how to make what we have more green (like energy efficient PSU's or something). I really didnt like that green screen stuff, seemed really cheesy and not in a good and funny way more a 1980's childrens TV show way sorry guys, not your best effort.
Cant wait for next weeks episode though :D

April 23, 2008 10:36 AM

My previous post was in response to 'Mot'. Although I completely disagree with his point of view, I completely defend his right to say what he thinks. I cannot understand why his comment was deleted and I don't specifically remember any profanity in it either.

If DL.TV feels the need to censor profanity, please just delete the word and not the whole post. Don't censor debates and points-of-view please!

Yeah, Earth Day is over!

No more hippie preaching!

Posted by: Scott
April 23, 2008 12:34 PM

I have a proposal. For all the nay-sayers that believe we at DL.TV are wrong about the information that we put out in this show, prove it. Prove that we are wrong. Don't call us names, tell us we need to do our homework, give us the information that you believe to be true and we will compare it to the conventional wisdom of that scientific community and see who is right. If we are wrong, we will say so. If not...

April 28, 2008 5:43 AM

Hey Mark,

Did you actually watch this???? I think you scored an 'own goal'!

The clip shows an interview which actually debunks the nay-sayers of global warming.

Posted by: john
April 28, 2008 6:10 AM

Oh, another think Mark, It is not the BBC, but an interview conducted by ABC Australia. The original film was also not from the BBC, but a production from WagTV for Channel 4 in Britain. The film has been largely discredited due to the fact that it only interviewed sceptics and dissident scientists, and also that they did not check the most basic facts - a bit like your post don't you think?

I have always loved DL.TV, throughout it's changes, I'm a big fan of Robert and all the guest hosts, but this green episode was just too much for me.

I'm so tired of all the eco preaching that has done nothing but ruin our economy, bring us to the upcoming food crisis, skyrocket gas costs, make life miserable and not really improve the environment at all.

Please just allow me to continue to relax and geek out for one half hour each week with you guys without the preaching about light bulbs that require a hazmat team to clean up after. Please!

Home Depot now accepts old CFL bulbs for recycling in all of it's US stores for free! Just drop your old bulbs off at the returns or service desk.
