STUFF
• Finally, we have Loyd Case, Editor of ExtemeTech.com, back on the set to answer your questions.
• Today's Tech Pic of the Week is from Ramon of Marina Del Ray, CA. Linux on a PS3. Want to try it on your PS3? Go to psubuntu.com.
• Question 1:
Leo of 'Downeast', Maine wants to know about he upgrade ability or Blu-Ray drives for HTPCs...Loyd says to check out PowerDVD 8, which adds Profile 1.1 support.
• Question 2:
Chris of Adelaide, South Australia wants to know what the minimum specs are of a MCPC that will record 2 HD channels at the same time...You'll need a faster CPU -- preferably a dual core processor. It wouldn't hurt to have a faster hard drive and more memory, either. I don't think the issue lies with your HD capture cards.
• Question 3:
Virgilio of Vancouver, BC, Canada would like to know how to go about choosing a LCD monitor...You should be good with a 22-inch monitor at 1680x1050 and should comfortably drive a 24-inch at 1920x1200. Another great resource is the Theater Computers section of the AVS Forums.
• Question 4:
Alex of Brooklyn, NY is wondering if there were micro ATX motherboards that support PCI-e 2.0...If you want to use an AMD processor. The AMD 780G chipset is built into boards made by Asus, Gigabyte and others. But then you have to think: what do you want PCIe Gen2 for? If you're talking home theater PC, you'll never approach the bandwidth of PCIe 1.1, much less Gen2.
• Question 5:
Ryan of Anchorage, Alaska has an old rig and is wondering if he should wait for Nehalem to upgrade or upgrade now...If you're still running an old single core CPU, upgrade now, for pity's sake! Nehalem is likely to be very expensive at launch. You can get an E8400, 3GHz dual core for under $200.
• Question 6:
Julian of Phoenix, AZ needs to set up a rig to support up to 8 displays...The Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 allows you to connect up to four displays, as does the AMD FireMV. You can also use the Matrox DualHead2Go Digital, an external box allows you to connect two displays per DVI port, but this can get a little cumbersome, as you'd need two video cards, each with two DVI ports, and four DualHead2Go boxes.
• Question 7:
Ismael wants to know the parameters for safe overcloking temps for CPUs...As a rough rule of thumb, you want CPU idle temperatures to be under 50 degrees C, and temperatures at full throttle to stay under 70 degrees C.
• Keep an eye out for the ExtremeTech.com redesign to be launched Tuesday morning May 6th.
• Next Week: Brooks Rowlett will be back on the show. Scott looks at the Yahoo PPV stream quality and Sam Arbizo spends some time in the Green Office.

2003 and I prior I consumed hours of TV each day, none the least was the Screensavers on TechTV and ZDTV before that. But now I haven't watched regular TV in just over four years. To briefly explain, after I bought my home in late 03, and going back and forth with DirecTV for about two months, I couldn't get my dish installation certified because of all the trees around my house. So after 60 days of not watching TV, I decided to try and live without it. Man was that really tough in the beginning (I swear I had withdrawals).

My wife and I viewed a lot more DVDs during the transition. However, after resurrecting my enjoyment of reading (go George RR Martin and Neal Stephenson!) I began to seek out online media outlets. Being a techy, I stumbled upon and instantly fell in love with DL.TV and Crankygeeks.

I'm blithering on an on because I want you to know how much I like and appreciate your show being available to me. Since Patrick left DL.TV, I now watch Techzilla intermittently, but I like the not-so-smooth production of DL.TV in contrast. This was reaffirmed after re-watching episode 183 (I was a Sun Rocket customer and was thinking about recycling an unused Dell power supply). The synergy between Robert and Patrick was undeniably an unbeatable combo when held up to today's current offerings from either production studio.

Please keep producing great product reviews and fun, entertaining hijinks (bring back the rabbit) that I believe all DL.TV fans have come to love so much. And of course, don't give up on finding a permanent co-host for Robert Heron that provides that great viewer synergy that we all keep tuning in for week after week.

Thank you,
Grant

Hey Grant, I have to agree with you completely. I am also an avid fan of DLTV and Cranky Geeks and never miss an episode. Although I miss Patrick and do like Veronica a lot, I just don't find Techzilla as appealing. I am not sure why, but perhaps DLTV has a real tech feel that Techzilla can't quite re-create.

So to the DLTV team, please keep up the great work. I know the forums have been rough on you guys recently, but for every critic, there are at least 10 fans.

Thank-you

Hey, I appreciate some Q & A, but a whole show? How about tech news, reviews, features, etc. I'm sure I'm not alone on this.

Some days are slow for tech news. and,the show may have a budget on what they can bring in to review. So,why not just relax and do q n a show? won't hurt to watch it. you might learn somthing..

Same here, with all the bitching we do about this and that, I still come back here because I like the format, its not all toys and products but a nice combination of different things about technology which interest me. The hardy Heron does a good job and I dont mind a rotation between Scott, Garett like theyve been doing.

Lloyd is an uber-geek get your hands dirty tech segment guy, not co-host.

Content is king. When I see the show notes and cant wait for the DL to finish, THATS about the content.
Personal interplay can only hide so much.

I am not sure what it is about DL.TV but, I am hooked and can't stop watching. With that being said I am also a little bit disappointed that you guys have not found a co-host for the show. I think that all legitimate shows need a co-host to really make it official. But, anyways keep up the good work and I'll keep watching in the mean time.
